#REPORT Madera Looks at Agave to Help With Water Shortages Nearly 100 growers, students and ag professionals attended a two-part workshop focused on agave, the plant grown widely in Mexico that provides the juice distilled to make tequila and mezcal. Known for its ability to thrive in climates with extreme heat and very little water, agave has attracted the attention of California growers who are looking for new opportunities in the face of reduced availability of water for cropping and forecasted increasingly high summertime temperatures. #REPORT Westlands Certifies New Board Members The?Westlands Water District held its board of directors meeting on Tuesday, November 19, 2024 at its swank Fresno Headquarters and on Zoom. The meeting began in closed session for an as yet unannounced reason – at least that’s what was posted on the Zoom screen. But the good, law abiding folks at Westlands CYA’d themselves with a statement on?the agenda that read, “The order of business reflected in this Agenda is subject to change.” What kind of monster would raise objections after reading such a succinct disclaimer? The brievity of it is enough to indemnify the whole situation. Read full story ??here: https://lnkd.in/gN3mjSwM #water #cawater #waterpolicy #irrigation #agriculture #waterwrights #westlands

#REPORT Tulare ID's Depth to Groundwater Shows Significant Improvements The?Tulare Irrigation District?held its Tuesday; November 12, 2024 board of directors meeting at its headquarters west of Tulare. It was on Zoom, so that helped. It was also held in person. If you have an opportunity to visit an in person TID meeting you should do so. I’ve been kicking back in my pajamas for a while now and hanging out online. TID?offers good breakfast burritos and they are one of the more friendly, less pretentious bunch you’re liable to run into at a government gathering. That’s not butt kissing, it’s just a fact. The first 10 years I covered water meetings I was working for someone and reporters don’t usually receive warm welcomes – for obvious reasons. But one day the former TID General Manager,?Paul Hendrix, turned around and said hi. He asked me how I was doing. That was the first act of warmth I remember receiving at a meeting. #REPORT Exchange Contractors Prepare for Winter Maintenance & Permitting The?Exchange Contractors?board of directors met on Friday, November 1, 2024 at its Los Banos headquarters. There are some exciting plans developing in Los Banos – exciting for those of us who have spent the past 20 plus I don’t know how many years attending Ex Con meetings. There’s a legend that someday a new building will be constructed to house the Ex Con offices. But not only that, it will house the San Luis Delta Mendota offices and be home to a museum. While it’s true everywhere is historical – everywhere on earth has been here as long as everywhere else – once you mix humans into it, the history starts?becoming more relevant to how we got where we are. The Los Banos area has played a big role in California water. It’s home to the Miller & Lux ranching empire. #REPORT Congressman David Valadao Talks WIIN Act and How to Get More Responsive Government Unless you’ve been living with an undiscovered tribe in an Amazonian rainforest or on Mars; let’s not say Mars – that’s too cliché. Let’s say you’re living on Uranus. Then you should know there is an election taking place in America. For the San Joaquin Valley elections are extremely important in ways that won’t matter as much to the rest of?California. A great majority of our surface water comes through state and federally owned conveyance systems. With one of the largest agricultural based economies on earth water is as essential an input material for crops as aluminum is for building airplanes. These are the crops that feed much of the United States and many throughout the world.
