Check our our article on PumpPodUSA's HeloPod making aerial firefighting helicopters more effective from our November/December issue. Paradise, Lahaina, Boulder County—the names of these peaceful rural communities are now synonymous with devastating wildfire destruction. That’s why the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) and other agencies have purchased and deployed PumpPodUSA’s HeloPod units—mobile autofill dip tanks that enable helicopter firefighting crews to deliver 18,000 gallons of water per hour when pre-positioned at 5-mile intervals in communities. In this interview, Bill Ward, the vice president and co-owner of PumpPodUSA, the manufacturer of the HeloPod, and Gary Stephen, who does business development for the company, talk with Municipal Water Leader about the device’s role in the shifting battle against bigger and more frequent fires. As today’s fires require bigger helicopters with more water capacity, says Mr. Ward, water agencies' firefighting responsibilities go beyond traditional yellow hydrants—they are now on the frontline of wildland aerial firefighting preparedness. Because wildfires can destroy watersheds and threaten drinking water quality, water agencies also have a big stake in mitigating fire damage—meaning that investments in mitigation and preparedness can have a big payoff. https://bit.ly/3CqaAMM #MunicipalWaterLeader #MunicipalWater #HeloPod #ForestFire #CaliforniaWildfire #WildfireMitigation
