Water Science Associates, an Apex Company, is a specialty hydrogeologic consulting firm focused on water resource evaluation, planning, design, permitting, and construction. Water Science Associates takes pride in our reputation for responsive, client-focused, and solutions-oriented services. We believe in listening carefully to project needs and client objectives, collaborating effectively with project team members, and delivering appropriate and cost-effective solutions to our client’s most challenging water resource engineering issues. With a world-class technical team committed to customer service and offering unmatched hydrogeologic expertise to the Florida marketplace, Water Science Associates has been providing consistent and comprehensive services since 2013. The firm was founded by Kirk Martin, P.G. and Brian Barnes, both former Vice Presidents at large national engineering firms, who believed that their clients could be best served with a smaller, nimbler, client-centric approach. Since our inception, we have meticulously selected water resource hydrogeologists, scientists, and engineers to serve out of two regional offices in Fort Myers and Tampa. In 2023, Water Science Associates joined Apex Companies, LLC one of the most-respected full service environmental consulting firms in the United States.     Apex, as prime consultant, in collaboration with a team of engineers and contractors, is overseeing the construction of one of the largest deep injection wells in Florida for the City of Fort Myers. The City will utilize the 3000-foot-deep well to dispose of up to 40-million gallons a day of treated wastewater effluent, which is currently being discharged to a local river.     The Central Everglades Planning Project aims to enhance surface water flow in the Everglades National Park and Florida Bay. The project involves constructing a 78-billion-gallon (BG) reservoir and a 2.1-BG stormwater treatment area within the Everglades Agricultural Area. The construction includes a 17.3-mile reservoir foundation and a cutoff wall in Palm Beach County, Florida. The project requires significant surface and groundwater management due to the challenging karstic limestone environment and limited space for dewatering effluent storage. This necessitates additional planning for coverage under the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System and South Florida Water Management (SFWMD) permitting criteria. Apex, with its expertise in south Florida construction dewatering in karst environments, was retained as the construction dewatering expert. They developed a Surface-Subsurface Water Management Plan (SSWMP) and obtained a Master Dewatering Permit from the SFWMD. The SSWMP details how surface and groundwater will be managed throughout construction and will be updated as the project progresses. Offsite discharges conform to SFWMD permitting criteria, and a turbidity control and monitoring plan was established.     ?????Today, we celebrate the one-year anniversary of the groundbreaking of the Central Everglades Planning Project (CEPP) North, a key #Everglades restoration effort. It was another great day for America’s Everglades as we joined many federal, state and local officials and stakeholders to celebrate this important project that will restore water levels in the northern portion of the Central Everglades and improve our water resource resiliency in South Florida. The CEPP North Phase is a component of the larger suite of projects within CEPP. CEPP restores water levels in the Central Everglades (Water Conservation Areas), which make up nearly half of the land mass in Broward County, and ultimately will help deliver more water south to replenish our aquifers and nourish the Everglades and Florida Bay. CEPP is a key part of the joint state-federal partnership to restore the Everglades known as the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan (CERP).
