Yesterday, the WRA Board and members gathered for our annual end of year meeting and holiday reception. Larry Finnicum with Veolia North America moderated a Water Leaders Roundtable with Chris Crockett (Aqua), Seung Ah Byun, PhD, PE (Chester County Water Resources Authority), Eric Hahn (American Water) and Scott Schreiber (Camden County Municipal Utilities Authority).
The panel discussed some of the most urgent, critical issues in the Delaware River basin including drought planning and mitigation, planning for a new Presidential administration, the energy water nexus, and effectively and safely integrating AI and technology into water resources management.
A few highlights:
?? Eric shared American Water's strategy to incorporate solar energy wherever feasible to offset energy costs.
?? Chris delved into the 3Rs—Risk, Resilience, and Recovery—emphasizing Aqua's commitment to resilience and recovery planning as essential complements to risk management.
?? Seung Ah introduced the Storm Event Analysis Tool developed by Chester County, which provides the most up-to-date and locally accurate flood predictions and informs planning and capital investment decisions.
?? Scott shared how CCMUA collaborated with Drexel University (thanks for joining us last night Roland Wall) to project future 10-year storm scenarios, using this information for infrastructure design.
A big thank you to Steven Domber, the New Jersey State Geologist from the NJ Department of Environmental Protection, for the timely updates on New Jersey's drought status. Did you know that while each state has its own process, the Delaware River Basin has established triggers to determine when a basin-wide or lower basin drought is declared?
Thanks to all our committed water and energy providers who joined us last night, and who work hard to provide these critical services to our communities, including Jason Cruz Michael Bard Maggie R. Matthew Csik Madeleine J Gallagher, EIT Helen Gregory Liesel Gross Abby Sullivan, MRM, CFM
