It was a real pleasure to speak during this Summit of the Future Action Day session on protection of civilians in urban warfare. This Saturday, Watchlist on Children and Armed Conflict's Global Advocacy Advisor, Bethany Ellis, was pleased to speak at the 4th session of the Summit of the Future Action Days on the protection of civilians in urban settings, saying that “avoiding the use of explosive weapons in populated areas by all parties to armed conflict, compliance with international law, addressing the rights of persons affected by explosive weapons – including child-specific resources, and clearing mines and explosive remnants of war are all critical for the protection of children.” Watch the recording of the full session here: https://lnkd.in/gNjecCJs

We live in challenging times for #children affected by #conflict. As highlighted in the 2024 UN Annual Report on Children and Armed Conflict, there was a staggering 21% increase in grave violations against children in 2023. Over 30,000 such #violations were verified, impacting the lives of millions of vulnerable children globally. Amid this disturbing reality, Watchlist on Children and Armed Conflict continues to champion the rights of children. Their 2023 Annual Report showcases their invaluable work as highlighted by H.E. Ambassador Vanessa Frazier of the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Malta to the UN as Chair of the CAAC Working Group.
