???New publication: Detection and quantification of human immunodeficiency virus-1 (HIV-1) total nucleic acids in #wastewater settled solids from two California communities. ? Our research, published in Applied and Environmental Microbiology (American Society for Microbiology) is an important proof of concept that HIV-1 nucleic acids can be reliably detected and quantified in wastewater. We found that rates of detection and concentration are aligned with information about the overall prevalence of people were living with #HIV (PLWH) in the associated communities. ? https://lnkd.in/gTHhFwWf
