Congratulations to our new steering committee members! We recently ran three sector group steering committee elections for the Product Stewardship, Health, Safety & Wellbeing, and Territorial Authorities' Officers Forum. These committee members help to drive the direction of the sector groups, identify key priorities and projects for the next two years, and provide key input into government consultations and submissions. Anna is passionate about behaviour change - and says it's a critical piece of work across all levels of change. "I love the anthropological challenges and discoveries that are made across all aspects of behaviour change – whether it’s with a waste focus or otherwise." WasteMINZ is calling for the food and waste industries to work together to solve the issue of food waste in Aotearoa New Zealand. Let's meet our snapshot speakers for Te Hui Taumata Moumou Kai o Aotearoa - New Zealand Food Waste Summit! With New Zealand Food Waste Champions 12.3 Charitable Trust (NZFWC 12.3 Trust) ?Kyrin Gourley, Foodstuffs South Island Kyrin is the Supply Chain Business Manager for Foodstuffs South Island, overseeing distribution centre services and non-trade procurement as well as leading their "Here for New Zealand" workstreams across 3 distribution centres and transport South Island fleet (120 truck and trailer units). Kyrin will be showcasing how Foodstuffs South Island's supply chain has been learning how they can use their own data to help drive decision making and lead conversations with suppliers on achieving their collective food waste reduction goals. ?Gemma Donaldson, South Kaipara Good Food Gemma has been the Chief Executive of South Kaipara Good Food since October 2021. She leads a dedicated team and instrumental volunteers addressing the complex issues around food insecurity and food waste within the South Kaipara region. With over a decade of experience in operations management, strategic planning, and NGO leadership, Gemma has spearheaded programmes that prioritise sustainability, collaboration, and local food resilience. Gemma will share insights into how South Kaipara Good Food tackles food insecurity through a holistic, whole-of-community approach. Her presentation will focus on local, on-the-ground action that highlights how collective efforts are making a tangible impact in reducing food waste and increasing food security. ?Stephanie Cavell, New Zealand Cherry Corp Stephanie is Sales Manager at the NZ Cherry Rescue Project, which was started by NZ Cherry Corp in 2019. It continues to grow and evolve with the commitment to ensuring that every cherry has a purpose. From their own fortified cherry wine to collaborating with many NZ Partners (including Citizen with our Cherry Cola) they are on a mission to take the cherry industry waste-free by 2030. Stephanie will explain how the organisation repurposes its cosmetically imperfect cherries that do not make the export or local quality standard, and turn them into value-added products.
