#TBT to last Friday when Melinda Schmidt, our Chief of Staff, hosted a team Town Hall for the?Portfolio & Project Management Office, Organizational Change Management and Finance and Administration teams. We started the day with breakfast and networking, followed by inspiring remarks and personal stories from Melinda who challenged us with this powerful message: “Don’t let other people define who you are.” The day included updates on key #WashUIT initiatives, ongoing efforts to align with the university’s evolving brand, and a fun team-building challenge to "create something with a purpose." We wrapped up with a special lunch, celebrating connection and collaboration.

It’s #StudentTuesday! Today, we’re excited to introduce you to two incredible #WashUIT student employees at Tech Den: Maya Ghatalia and Peter Nau. Maya and Peter are creative minds helping power 3D printing at Tech Den by turning bold ideas into reality for our university community. A senior studying Mechanical Engineering, Maya has a passion for innovation and all things 3D printing. Over the past year, she’s been helping the WashU community bring their designs to life as a student 3D Tech. Her work at Tech Den has not only sharpened her technical skills but also boosted her confidence during summer internships. Her favorite tech tip doubles as a word of encouragement: “Try any idea you have, especially with CAD. Most of the time, you can find a way to make it real!” When she’s not engineering or designing, you’ll find Maya cooking, baking, or rewatching the series Suits. Peter is a Mechanical Engineering student (Class of 2027) with a love for robotics and 3D printing. Since joining Tech Den in October 2023, he’s been assisting with 3D printing services and consultations — bringing creativity to life one project at a time. For Peter, working at Tech Den feels less like a job and more like doing what he loves. His top tech tip? ?“If your laptop gets hot and dies after being in your backpack, unplug it before closing the lid.” Outside of Tech Den, Peter enjoys robotics and unwinding with Breaking Bad or House M.D. Maya and Peter’s passion for engineering, problem-solving, and innovation makes them invaluable to the Tech Den team. Whether they’re refining CAD designs or troubleshooting 3D printers, their dedication keeps WashU’s 3D printing program running smoothly. #MechanicalEngineering #3DPrinting #WashU

This week, we had the pleasure of welcoming 30 new WashU IT employees at our orientation in Holmes Lounge. With the presence of senior leaders and many of our senior staff members, the event was fun, interactive, and informative, giving our new colleagues insight into the diverse teams that power WashU IT—from Data Management & Analytics and Information Security to Shared Infrastructure, Enterprise Systems & Solutions, Portfolio & Project Management, End User Services, and more. Megan (Esser) Fitzpatrick, MA, Senior HR and Payroll Professional, highlighted the importance of a strong start: "The HR orientation is an important step in making new employees feel engaged, valued, and truly part of the team. A strong start gives them the knowledge they need to confidently navigate their new environment and sets the foundation for a successful journey with WashU IT." Julie Szaj, Director PPMO Organizational Change Management and leader of the EDI Committee for the last two years, took our new team members on a campus tour, guiding them through key buildings and helping them familiarize themselves with their new workspace when working onsite. One of our new employees, Susan Muckerman - CITAM, CAMSE, IT Asset and Configuration Manager, shared her thoughts on the experience: "I’d like to take a moment to thank everyone for the orientation today, especially Julie Szaj for being our tour guide extraordinaire. Having a mini-open house with different groups was very helpful. The WUIT orientation enabled me to make new connections for our program and helped facilitate camaraderie with new coworkers." Welcome to all our new WashU IT team members—we’re thrilled to have you on board! #WashUIT #ITStartsWithYou Explore exciting career opportunities with WashU IT on the university website: https://lnkd.in/eKDvh6UU
