Recently, the Centerville Noon Optimist Club presented Tyler Foust with the 2024 Robert O’Toole EMT/Firefighter Award. Tyler serves as a shop foreman and emergency vehicle technician for the Washington Township Fire Department. In his over 21 years with Washington Township, Tyler has been an excellent resource for the fire department, and it is well known throughout the ranks that he is the go-to person when it comes to vehicle issues. He is also known for his professional, calm, and friendly demeanor and is well respected among his colleagues. Congratulations, Tyler! The Robert O’Toole Award was established by the Centerville Noon Optimist Club in 1998 in memory of Bob O’Toole, who tragically lost his life in the line of duty on January 12, 1998. The Award aims to honor those in our community who unselfishly give of themselves in service to others.

Thank you doesn't even come close. But we'll keep saying it. Pictured below are just a few of the veterans who work here at Washington Township. Their experience serving in the U.S armed forces means that they have unique insights and perspectives that they bring to their jobs. We are beyond grateful that they chose to serve our country and that we now get to be the beneficiaries of their expertise and lived experiences. To all who made the choice to sacrifice and serve: Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

On August 12, the Washington Township Fire Department responded to a call from a dentist office of a patient in cardiac arrest. What unfolded next was the result of training, experience, determination, and meticulous attention to detail. Recently, that patient came to Fire Station 41 alongside his family, the dentist office employees, and the team of doctors, dispatchers, CareFlight nurses, and firefighters/paramedics who provided care to him. We had the opportunity to recognize their swift actions and incredible care while celebrating a life saved. When the patient started demonstrating signs of cardiac arrest, the employees at the dentist office called 911 and immediately started CPR. There are multiple steps to the chain of survival, but the key is early recognition and action. And here’s the icing on the cake: This dentist’s office was trained and certified in CPR last year by Scott Henry, Education Specialist with the Washington Township Fire Department. It’s not every day that we get to celebrate an outcome like this. Incredible work to everyone involved!

After 31 years of service with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, and 6 years as the Police Captain for Washington Township, Captain Mike Brem is retiring and taking a new position as the Chief of Police in the City of Miamisburg. To say that Washington Township has benefited from his leadership would be an understatement. Captain Brem leads with humility and sets the example for his team by being authentically compassionate, genuine in his concern and care for his staff and Township residents, and an open and transparent communicator. He has helped bridge the gap between law enforcement and the community through countless initiatives and people-first programs. He will be sorely missed and we wish him nothing but the best as he steps into his new role. Captain Brem: Thank you for your dedicated leadership and your selfless service to our community!
