WSCAP?is a member of the governance board for the?National Energy and Utility Affordability Coalition (https://neuac.org/), (NEUAC), which is a coalition dedicated to bridging states, utilities, and social services to protect families in utility crises. NEUAC also brings the?Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (https://lnkd.in/ggKH5UWM)?(LIHEAP) advocates together for the annual?‘LIHEAP Action Day.’ (https://lnkd.in/dESN-yWM)
At this year’s LIHEAP Action Day, held on March 5th, in Washington D.C., ten stakeholders from different regions of Washington gathered together to speak with our elected officials about the vital importance and impact that LIHEAP has on constituents of our state.
In all, our group was able to attend eight meetings on “the hill”, which included the offices of?Senator Patty Murray,?Rep Marilyn Strickland,?Rep Adam Smith,?Rep Emily Randall,?Rep. Michael Baumgartner,?Rep. Dan Newhouse,?Rep. Rick Larsen, and?Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez.
We shared real stories about the positive impacts LIHEAP has on recipients, discussed the increasingly year-long need for energy assistance as our communities face both heating and cooling challenges, and asked for support in opposing cuts to LIHEAP funding.
We had a wonderful and productive time and appreciated meeting all the hard-working staffers, legislative assistants, and Representatives who took meaningful time to listen to our stories and concerns.
