Congratulations to Deniz Muhittinoglu for being named Washington's 2024 Young Male Referee of the Year! ???? Deniz, who hails from Kenmore, WA, has been officiating soccer matches since 2016, starting alongside his father. Over the years, he has brought his passion for the game to the field as a referee, with experience in Washington Youth Soccer State Cups and as a mentor to new referees within the Northshore Youth Soccer Association. His dedication, humility, and professionalism shine through every match he officiates, earning him praise from assignors and peers alike. As one assignor said, “Everyone loves being around Deniz. He always has a positive attitude and handles each match with professionalism.” In addition to his contributions on the soccer field, Deniz also served as Treasurer for the Kenmore Community Youth Council and is now pursuing a degree in Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University. Congratulations to Mallory Morris for being named Washington's 2024 Young Female Referee of the Year! ???? Mallory’s soccer journey started at the age of 14, and her passion for officiating has grown ever since. Hailing from Kent, WA, she recently graduated from Kentlake High School and is now in her first year at Saint Martin's University, where she plays on the Women’s Soccer team while pursuing a degree in Engineering. Whether it's on the field as a player or officiating at tournaments, Mallory’s commitment to the game is undeniable. Her colleague shared, "Mallory is a referee as well as a great human that her peers strive to be like. She is always positive, professional, and cheerful both on and off the field." Reflecting on her journey, Mallory says, "Being a player as well as a referee has allowed me to gain perspective and an advantage on both sides of the game. I love the game, and the first thing I do after a tournament is give my mom a rundown of the event and share stories about my friends." On Saturday, September 28, Washington Youth Soccer Foundation partnered with the Renton School District to celebrate young women from six area high school soccer teams. The event featured speakers who addressed topics such as mental health, physical health, and teamwork. Participants left the event with valuable knowledge from the speakers, as well as sports bras, soccer balls, game tickets, Darigold FIT Milk, and jerseys. The teams also took part in scrimmages, showcasing their skills on the field. Washington Youth Soccer and Northwest University teamed up through the Let Her Coach initiative to offer coach education classes for female college students and members of the women’s soccer team! Thanks to U.S. Soccer Federation Innovate to Grow grant program, female college students across the state can now become USSF-certified Grassroots soccer coaches at no cost through Let Her Coach! Coach April VanAssche shared, "The experience and knowledge they gained from this experience hopefully ignites a new passion for coaching, and the ability for them to give back to the game that has provided so much for them in their lives." Senior Captain Jordan Cagle added, "This experience provided lots of insight into different aspects of coaching and the environment you create for your team."
