Food sovereignty is?gaining traction across the United States, whose government once not only disrupted but weaponized Indigenous foodways. Today, government agencies and public entities are partnering with tribes to reimagine Indigenous food systems. “We’re in an era of revitalization. We’re seeing a lot of opportunities to build programs to revitalize traditions, particularly food traditions,” says Landon Charlo, assistant professor of Native American Food Systems at the WSU?School of the Environment?and a member of the Bitterroot Salish Tribe in western Montana. Anisa Ashabi?(’20 Comm.)?is the author of the young adult novel?"Finding Chaz," which she recently adapted for television. The story?follows a young Iranian American girl as she navigates high school in a fictional small town in Washington. Roxie, the main character, deals with persistent bullying by Chaz, a male classmate. But when she and Chaz find themselves in in-school suspension, an unlikely friendship develops.
