Did you know there is a garden on top of Nationals Park helping feed local D.C. communities? The Washington Nationals and CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield maintain a Giving Garden with produce grown for THEARC-Building Bridges Across the River serving healthy, affordable, local produce to Washington D.C. Ward's 7 and 8 while helping battle food insecurity and chronic conditions related to diet in a food desert. “It’s really cool to see how they’re using this space to harvest different things and be able to give back.” — Nats outfielder Jacob Young

Sustainability is unique to each person and organization, yet revolves around a shared theme – do good today to build a better tomorrow. The Nationals have taken this approach by transitioning to energy-saving LED lighting and installing solar panels on top of our garages to expand our solar footprint - just a few of our initiatives to reduce environmental impact. Last week we proudly hosted our first-ever “Sustainability Panel” presented by United States Steel Corporation. Guests had the chance to experience batting practice on the field, followed by an insightful discussion with sustainability leaders Brenda Petrilena, Ross Guberman, Todd Wingfield, and Justin Vandenbroeck.?The panel, moderated by Nationals CMO Kimberly Bolt, explored why sustainability matters, shared best practices, and envisioned the future of sustainability. Thank you to our partners United States Steel Corporation, Recycle Track Systems, GP PRO (Georgia-Pacific), ESA for contributing your time and insights on an extremely important topic.

In partnership with the Library of Congress, National Postal Museum and National Geographic Kids, the Washington Nationals are inspiring the next generation of D.C. youth through reading, creativity and imagination. On select Sundays during the 2024 season, Story Time at Nationals Park has welcomed more than 700 children and their families, providing young fans the opportunity to expand their literacy with guides from Turning the Page and by reading stories with players like All-Star Kyle Finnegan and local D.C. authors from SHOUT MOUSE PRESS.
