Washed Ashore, Art to Save the Sea is a nonprofit organization committed to combating plastic pollution through art and education. Their mission is to build and exhibit aesthetically powerful art to educate a global audience about plastic pollution in oceans and waterways and to spark positive changes in consumer habits. In ten years, Washed Ashore has processed over 35 tons of plastic pollution from the Pacific Northwest’s ocean beaches to create over 85 works of art that are awakening the hearts and minds of viewers to the global marine debris crisis. Washed Ashore has exhibited their giant sculptures at many noteworthy venues including the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History in Washington, The Kelly Clarkson Show, Disney and many Zoos, Aquariums and Botanical Gardens across the United States.

Join Washed Ashore in Galveston, TX! NEW Artist-in-Residence Position Open Are you an artist with a passion for conservation, looking for an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on our planet? The Park Board of Galveston, TX, in collaboration with Washed Ashore, is giving artists an exciting opportunity to be at the forefront of fighting plastic pollution, by turning ocean debris into magnificent sculptures that advocate for our oceans' health and encourage sustainable consumer habits. Washed Ashore and the City of Galveston Park Board share a united vision of promoting ocean conservation awareness and encouraging community engagement and education through art. We are looking for a talented artist-in-residence who is passionate about sustainability and experienced in transforming materials into stunning works of art. You will have the privilege of leading our Washed Ashore Art Studio for a 6-month project, along with an artist assistant who is an expert in power tools and large-scale projects. As the lead artist, you will be responsible for crafting the captivating sculpture using plastic debris collected on Galveston's beaches, working in close collaboration with community partners to create a unique masterpiece that inspires coastal conservation. You will also have the opportunity to educate volunteers, advocate for ocean conservation awareness, and represent Washed Ashore and the Galveston Park Board with enthusiasm and dedication. Please note that the artist should independently hire the necessary assistant(s) for the entire duration of the project. Must be willing to learn the Washed Ashore production process and travel to Oregon for training for two weeks. At Washed Ashore, we believe that Art is for everyone, therefore, we encourage artists of all backgrounds and identities to apply.
