Boot camp prepared you for the military, we prepare you for college.
关于我们
Our mission is to empower enlisted veterans and service members and amplify their voices as civic leaders by providing them with: (1) a skill bridge that enables a successful transition to the classroom by making them informed consumers of higher education and increasing their confidence to apply to and complete rigorous degree programs at top-tier institutions, and (2) sustained support throughout their pursuit of higher education and into the civilian workforce. In partnership with the nation’s top colleges and universities, WSP hosts intensive and immersive one and two-week college-preparatory academic boot camps for enlisted veterans and transitioning service members. Boot camps are offered in three disciplines: Humanities, STEM, and Business & Entrepreneurship. Through faculty lectures, workshops and research projects, tailored assignments, and one-on-one tutoring, warrior-scholars acquire the skills to succeed in higher education and navigate the cultural shift from military service to college. Throughout the course, warrior-scholars are mentored by student veterans who have successfully transitioned from the military to college. WSP also offers workshops tailored to address the unique needs of veterans enrolled in community colleges and targeted programming for marginalized veterans, such as our Women Veterans Empowerment Dialogues. All programming is provided at no cost.

We love this Veterans Day feature on MLive.com highlighting WSP alumnus and University of Michigan student veteran Nicholas Read! In the article, Nick shared a powerful and vulnerable truth about veterans with MLive Media Group reporter Samuel Dodge: “We are a population that is least likely to ask for help or assistance, whether that is pride or just the training and mentality that is instilled within us from our time in service,” he said. College can be challenging in many different ways, especially for nontraditional students. Changing views on higher education and impacting lives is what we do! This past summer at Wesleyan University, we worked to help a group of student veterans grow and become better versions of themselves. The summer of 2024 was a series of firsts, and one of those "firsts" we are proud of was our inaugural STEM cohort at Stanford University. Learn how our collaborative efforts provide a pathway to college for enlisted veterans: https://lnkd.in/ezU-URSb #veterans #highereducation #military

Our academic boot camps impact each student veteran differently. Regardless of the challenges faced, each participant walks away with more knowledge, new skills, and a newfound confidence that they will not only succeed in college but excel. For us, the #WSPimpact isn't defined by how excellent of a paper is written, how great a presentation is given, or whether the student analyzed a reading correctly. Instead, our impact is defined by this: Do they believe? For Joshua Horton, he believes. This summer, a group of enlisted veterans took the challenge and crushed any doubts they had about going back to college. Thanks to Cornell University for hosting another successful academic boot camp and being part of the #WSPimpact! https://bit.ly/3NFX7CW #veterans #highereducation #military

Today, and every day, we are grateful for the veterans on our Warrior-Scholar Project team. As veterans themselves, our team members know firsthand the unique challenges and strengths that come with the transition to civilian life and higher education. Their experiences shape our programs and help us better support veterans and service members as they take on new academic and career goals. Join us in celebrating the veterans on our staff—and veterans everywhere—for their service, leadership, and continued impact. Ryan Pavel, U.S. Marine Corps Sabrina Perales. Our virtual academic boot camp will prepare you for the challenges of college and mold you into a better college student by taking the knowledge, skills, and abilities you already possess and help you refine them for a college classroom. You will walk away from our program with more tools for your tool kit to aid in your success as a college student. If you are an enlisted service member or veteran without a bachelor's degree, we invite you to join us from December 8-13, 2024. If you couldn't attend one of our in-person boot camps, cannot travel, have caretaking duties, or are stationed overseas, this is an excellent opportunity. Warrior-Scholar Project alumni are participating in the Pay It Forward Challenge this month. Why have our alumni stepped up to work together to raise the cost of one academic boot camp? "When 2015 rolled around and I decided to pursue my bachelor’s degree, old anxieties resurfaced. Past failed attempts at college before my military service haunted me, and the fear of academic failure loomed large. This is where Warrior-Scholar Project stepped in.” --Brad Carney, US Army veteran "Warrior-Scholar Project has been a constant presence of support and encouragement for me ever since 2019. Once you join the WSP family, you’re in for life, and the central staff and alumni are always there.” --Britney Domine Madison, US Navy veteran “Warrior-Scholar Project was the first real moment after the military where someone asked me questions that I should have gotten during my transition from the military: what are my dreams; what does my very best effort look like; how do I push past my limitations?” --Charles (Harry) Foster, United States Marine Corps veteran Read the incredible stories of these alumni (and others!) and help them Pay it Forward here: https://lnkd.in/eWcYZJVu #military #veterans #highereducation #veteransday
