Last night, the Mississippi Association of Broadcasters held the Excellence in Broadcasting Awards. This packed house of more than 300 TV and Radio professionals submitted over 500 entries for consideration. 16WAPT racked up again this year, bringing home 23 either first, second, or third-place finishes, which culminated with 16WAPT winning its second Station of the Year Award! Here are a few notables- Troy Johnson winning Anchor of the Year 10p News named Best Newscast Virtual Newscast won TV achievement Danny Townsend and Donnovan Wade won Best Commercial Campaign Bradley Davis won Best Sports Story Best Station Promo went to Brett Kenyon and his team TV Public Service Award WAPT won for our Tornado Relief Drive We capped off an amazing evening celebrating the industry’s collective hard work with the announcement of the large market station of the year and in that moment before our name was called, all of our team’s work from last year rolled through my mind…from Rolling Fork to the Gubernatorial Debate from Live from the Fair to the brand change to Jacksons Breaking News Leader and so so many others. This team is the best I have ever worked with and it was great to see all of their dedication on display and celebrated. Congratulations to everyone at 16WAPT!!!
