Join us in April 23, 2025 at 16:00 UTC, for our webinar on “RAGs and LLMs: Turning AI into Real Intelligence for Public Opinion Research”. This webinar explores how Large Language Models (LLMs) and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) Models are transforming public opinion research. As the research landscape evolves with AI integration, this session aims to provide both practical insights and a new perspective on navigating this technological shift. Moving beyond surveys, the webinar investigates emerging opportunities where LLMs and RAG models offer unique advantages in analyzing other information sources and data collection methods. We’ll discuss how these new technologies will help researchers sort, index, and query large behavioral datasets, while comparing the strengths and limitations of these methods. Participants will gain practical understanding of both the transformative potential and methodological considerations necessary for integrating new technologies responsibly into public opinion research. This webinar is valuable for researchers, methodologists, and practitioners seeking to navigate the evolving intersection of artificial intelligence and opinion research with both innovation and rigor. This webinar will be hosted by Matin Mirramezani, from Stanford University and Moshe Borouchov, from Cornell University. [Quotes from Journal] Hong Kong Contributing to the World ? Earlier this week, the World Association for Public Opinion Research (WAPOR) dispatched a bulkmail to all members to announce the latest impact metrics of its journal, the International Journal of Public Opinion Research (IJPOR). The journal was recently awarded a CiteScore? (Scopus) of 3.1, a new Impact Factor of 1.9 (Journal Citation Reports?), and 146,277 total Full-text downloads in 2023. ? Under this backdrop, I would like to quote the following passages from this latest issue of IJPOR: ? “WAPOR News 2024: 77th Annual Conference in Seoul, Republic of Korea, July 28–31, 2024 ..... ? The conference theme “The Soul of Public Opinion Research: Liberty, Quality and Humanity” set the stage for three impressive keynote events. The opening keynote—on liberty—was given by Kathleen Frankovic (Independent Consultant, USA) who addressed the importance of polling and ways to protect the freedom to poll. The second keynote addressed the aspect of quality in survey research: Tom W. Smith (NORC at the University of Chicago, USA) spoke about the need to maintain data quality amid measurement disruptions. The closing keynote was an engaging roundtable discussion on the role humanity plays in the survey profession, moderated by WAPOR President (2023–2024) Robert Chung (Hong Kong Public Opinion Research Institute, Hong Kong). Speakers included Eun-Ju Lee (Seoul National University, Republic of Korea), Colin Irwin (University of Liverpool, UK), Christof Wolf (GESIS-Leibniz Institute of Social Sciences, Germany), and Lai Sim Fong Zoe (On&On Theater Workshop, Hong Kong; presenting for Daniel Wetzel, Rimini Protokoll, Germany), thus bringing academic, practitioner and artistic perspectives together. All three keynote events nicely aligned with the conference theme: If liberty reminds us of all people’s right to be heard, and quality urges all of us to adopt the highest standards when serving the people, then humanity must provide us with the ultimate purpose for upholding liberty and quality…” ? I am glad to add that the conference theme of soul searching was proposed by me, and that pinning down the core values of liberty, quality and humanity for public opinion research is an important achievement of my two years of WAPOR presidency, which ended on the last day of 2024. ? Because WAPOR is a global organization, I have tried very hard to steer its course away from any local, national or regional interests. However, because liberty is one important core value of WAPOR, the association has been keeping a close eye on the encroachment of freedom to conduct and publish opinion polls around the world. Hong Kong is obviously one such place, USA under Trump’s administration is another, plus many more. ? Join us for our next Webinar "Technology and Strategies for Improving Survey Data Quality and Fieldwork Efficiency in the Global South" at April 3rd, 2025, 15:00 UTC. In-person household surveys in the Global South face significant challenges. Fieldwork teams often confront violent crime, environmental degradation, and political instability. Such factors compromise data quality as they offer incentives for interviewers to deviate from fieldwork protocols. In collaboration with Dooblo, this webinar presents LApop Lab’s algorithm to monitor and improve data quality in 32 AmericasBarometer countries. With the aid of advanced technology, this algorithm flags low-quality interviews in real-time, increasing the reliability of research outcomes and decreasing operational costs. This webinar will showcase how leveraging advanced technology and strategic partnerships can transform opinion research in the Global South, addressing core challenges in data quality and fieldwork efficiency. The successful collaboration between LAPOP Lab and Dooblo - SurveyToGo serves as a model for improving research quality and operational efficiency in complex survey environments. Learn more at https://lnkd.in/dGSVH_gD Register directly at https://lnkd.in/dRp2_PHK Panel of experts for our webinar: ??Guy Solomon (Dooblo - SurveyToGo CEO) ??J. Daniel Montalvo, Ph.D. (Director of Survey Research Operations at the Center for Global Democracy and LApop Lab at Vanderbilt University and former faculty in the Department of Political Science at Universidad San Francisco de Quito)

TOMORROW! Biases in LLM-Based Predictions of Voting Behavior in the European Elections Join us TOMORROW, March 13, at 15:00 UTC, for our webinar on biases on LLM-Based predictions on Voting Behavior, on the case of the European Elections. Large Language Models (LLMs) have become an increasingly significant tool in political research, particularly in analyzing and forecasting electoral behavior. Yet, while these methodologies are indeed a powerful tool for researchers, they also introduce systematic biases that can shape interpretations of voter preferences. This webinar will explore how these biases manifest in predictive models and what this means for the study of elections and Public Opinion. This webinar presents research examining the extent of context-dependent biases in LLM-based predictions of individual public opinion by predicting the results of the 2024 European Parliament elections – and a preprint containing partial results of the project presented in the webinar can be accessed in advance through ArXiv at this following link https://lnkd.in/eFCQKsUt ?? Date: March 13 ? Time: 15:00 UTC ?? Language: English (translated captions available in Spanish, French, and other languages) Webinar speaker: ?? Leah von der Heyde (Social Data Science and AI Lab (SODA) at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universit?t München, University of Mannheim) Moderation by Jan H?hne (Germany) Learn more here https:https://lnkd.in/e3nU-k2i Register directly at https://lnkd.in/eqWfDxtu
