***URGENT CALL TO ACTION*** Yesterday afternoon, we sent out an advocacy alert asking our community to reach out to members of the Senate Health & Long Term Care Committee urging them to help get E2SHB 1589 scheduled for a hearing. Last night, we learned that Chair Cleveland did pull the bill for a hearing this coming Tuesday, March 25! This is GREAT NEWS for our efforts to require private insurers to come to the negotiating table with small independent clinics and solo practitioners. ?? Now we need every one of you to SIGN IN PRO in support of this bill! Here's how: 1??Go to https://lnkd.in/gDibdrYU 2??Select "E2SHB 1589 Health carriers & providers" 3??Click on either "I would like my position noted for the legislative record" to simply sign in as a supporter OR "I would like to submit written testimony" if you would like to share your thoughts on the public record. [Please note that live testimony has been carefully coordinated for this hearing and is expected to include WANP Executive Director Angela Ross, ND, so please do not select either of the "I would like to testify" options. If you feel you have something compelling to contribute, please submit it as written testimony.] 4??Select PRO as your position and then include the information requested. (Including your credentials and/or your clinic practice name helps increase visibility into the ND community's participation in this effort.) 5??Click on "Submit Registration". In case you missed what this is about: If passed, E2SHB 1589 would require insurers to: ??provide the name and contact information of a person designated as the primary point of contact for contract negotiations; ??furnish contracting providers with a copy of the new contract with all changes highlighted; ??provide an updated fee schedule that does not require secure log in or password access; and ??engage in contract negotiation with any health care providers who are not employed by the health insurer, a major hospital system, or a multistate clinic. It would prohibit insurers from: ??including "all-or-nothing" clauses; ??requiring providers to accept additional discounted rates for services provided under any other health plan or insurance product; or ??penalizing providers who appeal an adverse benefit determination. While we recognize this bill does not fix all of the concerns our doctors face with insurers, we believe it would be a solid first step in empowering naturopathic physicians and other independent contract-eligible providers to have a say in the contracts they sign. Unfortunately, our bill has not yet been scheduled for a hearing in the House Committee on Health Care & Wellness, and the deadline for it to be heard is NEXT Friday, 2/21. ?? There's still time!
