The WANP encourages all of you to get those ballots in before 8p TOMORROW, Tuesday, November 5.???? We know that this political campaign season has been long and emotionally charged and that many in our professional and patient communities are feeling high levels of stress and anxiety - whether it's their own or their sensing everyone else's (we see you, HSPs). We also know that casting a vote in our democratic republic is how we make our voices heard. Remember that the current ballot contains much more than the candidates for the next President of the United States. Here in Washington, we are also electing our next Governor, our next Attorney General, our next Insurance Commissioner, many legislators, several judges (including our state's supreme court and court of appeals), Congressional representatives, and more, as well as weighing in on initiatives that impact funding of several different state programs. The adages "the personal is political" and "all politics is local" hold true in this election as always. Many of these offices have direct impact on the naturopathic physician profession, so we urge you to do your research and get your vote in soon! What does your malpractice insurance do for you anyway? ?? Here at the WANP, we get legal questions from our community on a regular basis. This speaker will help all of us understand when your malpractice carrier can answer these questions and how they support you should you ever have an issue in your practice. ??Richard Bryan, MSN, RN, CPHRM?? Historically, allegations of negligence and subsequent claims and litigation against Naturopathic Physicians have remained low. However, on occasion, naturopathic physicians may face allegations of malpractice. This presentation will discuss key drivers of litigation and how best both to avoid and to respond to complaints and allegations of negligence - be it claims or lawsuits. It will also briefly discuss how to respond when contacted by lawyers to discuss patients under your care who may be pursuing litigation not associated with your care. This presentation will provide an overview of key factors contributing to complaints, claims, and lawsuits; review the process for reporting incidents, claims, and notification of lawsuit; explain what to expect during the process; and discuss how to respond to contact or requests from attorneys.
