We are beyond thrilled to announce the success of Expanded Maritime Collaborative's first week-long mid-winter break overnight ship maintenance program aboard the historic Schooner Adventuress! Thanks to the amazing partnership between Washington Maritime Blue and Sound Experience, this incredible journey became a reality. Nine fearless high schoolers from Seattle took on this adventure in Port Townsend and gained hands-on maritime maintenance and team-building skills. With guidance from maritime professionals like Captain Gordon Sims and guest Ariela Marshall from ACI Boats , this experiential learning week truly set sail and sparked interests in new career paths. What weighs 900 lbs, records underwater noise, and sits at the bottom of Useless Bay for 3 months???? Last week, Quiet Sound worked with Gravity Marine and SMRU Consulting to retrieve the hydrophone which measured underwater noise during our seasonal slowdown.?We use the acoustic data to quantify the impact of vessels reducing their speed during the slowdown and to measure the number of days that Southern Resident killer whales were in the area.
