The Women’s Aviation Career Symposium (WACS) celebrated their seventh year that included over 300 participants and record-breaking scholarships awarded to women pursuing careers in aviation. We were able to showcase over 90 representatives from different aviation companies, schools, and organizations from the Great Lakes region. WACS awarded $50,000 in scholarships to 15 women. The conference featured time for meeting and networking with local industry companies, organizations, schools, and professional women in aviation. The event featured hands-on maintenance workshops, aircraft simulator sessions in a Cirrus G7 Series single-engine aircraft and a Boeing 737, and a drone workshop. Professional development workshops provided valuable information to attendees which included?scholarship applications, internship opportunities, resume writing and review, and careers in air traffic control, pilot pathways, and maintenance. The highlight of the event was keynote speaker Jasmin Moghbeli, a NASA astronaut and Marine Corps test pilot. Moghbeli commanded the SpaceX Crew-7 mission to the International Space Station. Attendees were inspired to keep pursing their dreams no matter what obstacles came in their path.

So Tom Thinnes and I are working on creating a Business Aviation Day at WMU's College of Aviation this year (Sep 26th 10am-2pm). Think of it as a business aviation exclusive version of Aviation Outlook Day. I know a lot of you are pilots/maintenance/schedulers/etc at corporate departments or companies that facilitate services to departments and we would love you to join us for this first ever event! Details are that there is no charge to represent your department or company. There may be sponsorship opportunities but no requirement to do so. No requirement to bring an airplane though there will be ramp space should you want to. This is not a career fair but more of an education to the students the opportunities that are out there, however should you have interest in using it to find candidates that is up to you. Each company will be given their own space including a display table again free of charge. We would love to have participation from departments regardless of their proximity, so if you are interested, or know a department who might be interested, please contact myself or Tom. Feel free to PM me if you want more information!!
