Giving back can give you more gifts than you realize. As AAPI heritage month concludes, I reflect on my time on the board of Wah Mei School. My work here has provided me with an outlet to engage with our community and ensure culturally diverse children, like my own, have access to learning about Chinese culture and language. Having a common language can ground us in community. The work at Wah Mei mirrors the community efforts of my parents in their church; addressing concerns, creating programs, lending an ear, and supporting childcare. Through grants, donations and government funding we are scaling this impact by hosting community forums, gatherings, and educational events, providing vital support to working families. Looking back at where we were 5 years ago we have come a long way, link in comments for article. Kicking off #APIHeritageMonth, the Sunset Chinese Cultural District hosted a community block party with @d4.youthandfamiliesnetwork, Wah Mei School, and People of Parkside Sunset. Special thanks to our performers, honored guests, resource booths, and the incredible volunteers, including @sf_immigrants Community Ambassadors, Community Youth Center of San Francisco (CYC), and @myeepsf.
