Question: What do infrared cameras, 3D printers, robot welders, product assembly, laser cutters, hands-on instruction and free swag have in common? Answer: They were all part of last week’s Wagstaff 2024 Business After School event! Area middle and high school students spent part of their afternoon at the Wagstaff’s Spokane Valley plant, and learned the finer points of very some exciting manufacturing jobs and impressive machinery from company employees. This year’s event marks the fourth time that Wagstaff and Greater Spokane Incorporated have collaborated to bring local youth who are interested in a manufacturing career to the jobsite to get a first-hand look at a future career. Many thanks to the students, their parents and teachers for stopping by! #businessafterschool #greaterspokaneincorporated #wagstaffinc #jobsinmanufacturing #hands-onlearning #spokanevalley

A successful collaboration with Greater Spokane Incorporated allowed students from over 20 area schools to attend yesterday’s Wagstaff’s 2024 Business After School event! The students, teachers and parents in attendance were greeted with perfect early-fall weather, and had the chance to learn about careers in the manufacturing industry through nine interactive stations. The learning centers provided instruction, information and hands-on training in welding, machining, 3-D printing, laser cutting and many other manufacturing jobs, and the opportunity to participate in contests to earn fun prizes! It looks like a great time was had by everyone, and Wagstaff very much appreciates all those who visited us for Business After School 2024. We'll see you again next year! #businessafterschool #greaterspokaneincorporated #wagstaffinc #manufacturingjobs #spokane

Wagstaff is thrilled to share the launch of East Valley High School’s KNIGHT MANUFACTURING! This exciting student-run business, made possible through a partnership between Wagstaff, Inc., East Valley School District, and some incredible sponsors, is giving students real-world experience in manufacturing and business operations. With a $200,000 shop upgrade and 16 students already on board, Knight Manufacturing is poised to train future trade professionals and grow over the coming years. Thank you to all the supporters who made this venture a reality! #Manufacturing #Education #TradeCareers #FutureWorkforce
We are excited to announce the launch of East Valley High School’s KNIGHT MANUFACTURING. Yesterday was our official launch. This partnership between Wagstaff, Inc., East Valley School District, and students launches a student-run business that manufactures and sells products, takes orders, and trains for trade careers. Inspired by models from other states and modified with lessons from 5 years of the Production and Manufacturing Institute, the venture is now underway. The first cohort will work like a start-up funded by an investor and lay the foundation for future groups. As they build it, they will learn the business as they design, manufacture, and sell products to real customers. East Valley’s CTE Director, Doug Edmonson, and Wagstaff’s Director of Workforce Development, Dr. Wade M. Larson, travelled to locations nationwide to identify best practices. Working with EVHS’s CTE Instructor Justin Sinn, they invited experienced students to join Knight Manufacturing as their first period of the school day. At present, 16 students have enrolled. Superintendent Brian Talbott consistently expressed his commitment to making East Valley the best trades program in the region. He has been instrumental in expanding the Manufacturing Institute partnership, supporting the $200,000 shop overhaul, and nearly doubling enrollment in trades-related programs over the past year. This support makes the difference in creating a strategic partnership between education and business. Over the next few weeks, students will learn business operations, gain new skills, and identify products to design and manufacture. They will also design sales systems and point-of-sale processes to begin taking in work orders. As they learn by doing, Knight Manufacturing will continue to grow and increase capabilities for the coming semester (and future years). Wagstaff and East Valley School District wants to thank its partners who helped make this possible. Institute sponsors such as MacKay Manufacturing, Pearson Packaging Systems, Collins Aerospace, Career Connect Washington, and the Spokane Workforce Council have laid the foundation to bring in this program. Other key sponsors such as Kaiser Aluminum, BECU, The Machinists Institute, the Krumble Foundation, Greater Spokane Valley Chamber of Commerce, and Parker Hannifin have supported key programs. Other players such as HOTSTART, Sonderen Packaging, NIMA, and KXLY TV helped support the costs of making these programs possible. Supporters from Advanced Thermoplastic Composites, Inc, Idaho Central Credit Union, ALTEK, Merkle Standard, ControlFreek Inc., and PACIFIC NORTHWEST CHAPTER ASSOCIATED BUILDERS CONTRACTORS are instrumental. And education partners Community Colleges of Spokane, North Idaho College, and NEWESD 101 (NorthEast Washington Educational Service District 101) are major supporters of career pathways.
