关于我们
The Department of Corrections (DOC) is Washington’s second-largest human service agency. We maintain approximately 9,400 FTEs. Our strategic priorities guide our department’s direction and decision-making. Everything we do is geared toward creating safer communities. DOC promotes public safety, teaches personal responsibility and accountability, treats incarcerated individuals fairly and equitably, promotes a positive work ethic by providing incarcerated individuals opportunities for self-improvement and provides for restitution. DOC operates 11 prisons, 13 reentry centers (formerly referred to as work releases) and 86 community field offices. These facilities serve and support 13,800 incarcerated individuals, 13,000 individuals under court-ordered supervision and an additional 900 people in partial confinement.

We empower incarcerated individuals in their reentry process by providing them with critical job readiness skills – from crafting resumes to mastering the art of a strong first impression. We hosted mock job interviews at Washington Corrections Center for Women, where volunteers from local employers provided real-world experience to build confidence and prepare these women for success beyond incarceration. #corrections #incarceration #rehabilitation #successfulreentry #washingtonway

From Garden to Table: The Washington State Penitentiary's farm program harvested 180,000 pounds of produce last year, a new record! In addition to being donated to local food banks, these fresh fruits and veggies are served to the entire population at WSP, Airway Heights Corrections Center, and Coyote Ridge Corrections Center. Planning is already underway for this year's crops, and WSP plans to continue to provide fresh produce from its gardens directly to the prison kitchens.

DOC staff were honored by the Vancouver Police Department for their work in averting a potential school shooting. Members of DOC's Community Response Unit in southwest Washington were presented the Team Commendation Award. Officers were at a local school investigating a social media threat when two males were approaching. They safely detained both individuals, each of whom had a loaded firearm in their possession. Their immediate action prevented a potentially violent encounter and ensured the staff and students were safe. #publicsafety #positivelychanginglives

DOC CRU: working together for safer communities. DOC has Community Response Units (CRU) across the state, working to locate and arrest supervised individuals who are known to pose a high risk to public safety. CRU is made up of teams of specialists, some who are assigned to a U.S. Marshals Service task force. Together as part of joint law enforcement operations, these teams investigate and apprehend individuals with active warrants for their arrest.?#corrections #publicsafety

On January 29, 2011, we tragically lost Corrections Officer Jayme Biendl at Monroe Correctional Complex. Monroe superintendents, staff, and members of the Honor Guard held a moment of silence and wreath-laying ceremony yesterday to mark the 14th anniversary of her line-of-duty death. Jayme’s death serves as a somber reminder of the dangers inherent in our profession and the lessons learned from her sacrifice.

We are proud to be the first Department of Corrections in the nation to own and operate a mobile dental clinic for incarcerated individuals in minimum-security camps. The clinic addresses the long-standing issue of limited access to dental care, which may disrupt participation in critical rehabilitation programs, pulling them away from valuable opportunities for personal development and public service.
