Earlier this week, Joey Henderson led a training class for Blackstone Service Technicians focused on servicing, maintaining and troubleshooting both gas heat and heat pump units for commercial and industrial facilities. With an HVAC industry career spanning more than 35 years, Joey launched a full-time, independent consulting and training business after retiring from his role as the Program Director at Midlands Technical College.

HVAC systems are obviously essential to maintaining a comfortable indoor environment and they are also the largest energy users in commercial buildings. At Blackstone, we are seeing an increase in the use of Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) systems in projects. This technology circulates a minimum amount of refrigerant needed during a single heating or cooling period, which allows end users to control several zones more precisely at the same time. A great example of a project that maximizes efficiency through zone controls is the SCRA: South Carolina Research Authority's new office space in downtown Greenville.

Project in Swing: Blackstone recently completed installation of the new chiller for the Basilica of Saint Peter School & Activity Center under construction in downtown Columbia. The activity center will include adult classrooms, gathering spaces, offices, a youth center, and a multi-purpose hall. Blackstone is providing all the HVAC construction on this project. Blackstone provided mechanical contracting services for the beautiful, new Lexington School District Two Performing Arts Center. Our team worked on uneven ground from all-terrain, articulating man lifts at extreme heights to hang the duct drops for proper air distribution.
