My dad often talks about how lucky we are to be in hospitality—which he views is the most fun business—and I have to agree. A big part of the fun is the people, including those I had the pleasure of traveling with and visiting during a recent trip to tour several Marriott International properties in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.? ? Jim Connelly and I greeted associates at 11 hotels and resorts, beginning at the Marriott Fort Lauderdale Harbor Beach Resort & Spa. We met my dad there – he loves to join these tours and share stories from his 66-year career with the company. We also stopped by the W Fort Lauderdale, where GM Cody Bertone described exciting plans for updates to the public spaces, including a new firepit area on the terrace and an elevated pool experience with stunning ocean views, which is sure to wow guests. Across the street at the Westin Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort, we saw the recent renovations at the Heavenly Spa by Westin and Lona, a Mexican restaurant that has a new outdoor bar and seating along the beach.? ? My visit was a great opportunity to spend time with Jim before his retirement after 38 incredible years with the company. I worked alongside Jim for 20 of those years and learned a great deal from him. Early in his journey with Marriott, he served as Assistant Controller at the Westchester Marriott, a serendipitous role where he met his future wife, Ann. Jim held finance leadership roles in the golf division and with The Ritz-Carlton, and most recently oversaw 12 brands in the Eastern region of the U.S. Always with a smile, Jim is known for his boundless energy and positivity, creating an atmosphere where people enjoy coming to work while driving for results and thriving through change. Jim’s infectious personality is matched only by Ann – they’re always fun to be around!? ? Jim, thank you for all you’ve done for the company and the extended Marriott family of associates who have had the good fortune of crossing your path.? ?
