You may have heard me mention "genuine engagement" in our past social strategy discussions. Now, Instagram chief Adam Mosseri is steering the platform toward a "genuine engagement" model, rewarding content that shows intent through Saves and Shares. This shift is significant for several reasons: 1) By prioritizing content that aligns with evolving consumer behaviors (like the recent increase in DM engagements), the quality of what appears in our feeds should improve, making it more "thumb-stopping." 2) It aims to return social media to its roots—genuine fan engagement should always outweigh vanity metrics. Agencies have relied too heavily on video views to inflate engagement rates (don’t be misled). 3) It gives brands and creators a real chance to build meaningful connections within their communities, reinforcing the foundational purpose of social media marketing. I couldn't be MORE excited about this announcement. Well done—better late than never.
