Tip of the week from the Double Broker Bounty Hunter: SIGN YOUR BOLs, all copies! I try to help carriers recover stolen monies on scammed loads. You cannot recover anything if the real driver doesn't sign the BOL. If you are required to sign electronically on a tablet, sign your name, but add you MC number as part of your signature. This will serve the same purpose, and identify the real carrier to be paid. I strongly recommend that all carriers invest in self inking stamps for their drivers. A 3-Line stamp will work, preferably in a dark color (NOT BLACK) with an easily readable font. Line 1: Carrier Company Name Line 2: Carrier MC Number Line 3: Driver's Printed Name Driver should sign on top of or under the stamp, and make sure to stamp all copies of the BOL, including shipper's copy, receiver's copy, and driver's copy. Signing and stamping all copies is a security step for carriers to demonstrate that they are the true carrier of record. When a broker takes the POD (driver's copy) and compares it to the shipper's copy, it will be immediately noticeable if the BOL has been tampered with, forcing the broker to hold payment from a scammer until the real carrier is identified. #truckers #carriers #scam #BOL #POD #drivers #shippers #receivers #brokers #collections

I dispatch for a carrier that has 20 years experience behind the wheel. He paused his authority for 6 months 2 years ago to recover from CANCER. He has had dozens of DOT inspections in the life of his authority but none in the past two years. I have been rejected by over a dozen brokers TODAY because of a "lack of inspections". A few months ago, DOT instructed weigh stations to not permit voluntary inspections anymore, which was the only way good carriers could get inspections. The only other way to get an inspection is to be doing something unsafe in front of an officer in order to get pulled over for an inspection. Even the "random" inspections at stations is predicated on observing an issue on camera to flag the truck on the way into the scale. Compliance teams need to reconsider the "need an inspection" requirement. Soon, the only carriers that will meet that requirement are the carriers that operate in an unsafe manner, and is that who you want running your freight? A good carrier won't have inspections because they run safely, and your brokerage will miss out on running with good carriers all together. #carriers #brokers #complaince #inspections #FMCSA #DOT

  • After giving the broker time to make it right, they have only paid the line haul fee minus a $150 fine for lack of tracking. The broker has been provided a written explanation by #TRUCKERTOOLS staff to show tracking was continuous, and the broker continues to assert a failure to track. The broker is MC 1007751 - Midway Logistics Recommend carriers place this broker on DNU. We have another bad actor broker making the rest of the industry look like fools. For right now, we are protecting the name of this actor to give them the chance to do the right thing. On or about 8/23, a carrier ran a load from Chicago to Indianapolis over a weekend. The load paid $700 (hotshot load). Tracking by #TruckerTools was required ($250 fine if not tracking). Tracking started on 8/23 at 14:32pm. As of this date, the broker has not paid for any portion of the load. Broker says they are assessing a $250 fine for failing to track, citing two breaks in tracking. 8 hrs between 14:32 on 8/23 until 22:58 on 8/23, and for 13 hrs from 01:02 on 8/24 to 14:28 on 8/24 (using the events log). Using the detailed ping map on trucker tools, there are about 70 pings during the first 8 hour period. We documented the times of the pings, with a screenshot from TruckerTools to show the pings. The second period was while the carrier was parked at a TA truck stop on the OH/IN state line. According to ping history, the driver parked in the TA lot at 22:58 on 8/23, and left at 13:58 on 8/24. Per TruckerTools support, the disconnection at 01:02 on 8/24 was because the truck is idle. TruckerTools advised that the it automatically disconnects after one hour if there is no activity, and automatically reconnects when the truck starts moving again. If the carrier manually cut off tracking, there is a special notation made in the log to indicate that the driver manually disconnected tracking service. No such notation was made in the log. Basically the driver was tracking the entire time, but was idle during the second period, and the broker clearly has no idea how to read the tracking for the first period. Despite a written statement from TruckerTools specifically explaining the second period, and the system recorded pings during the first period, the broker is STILL refusing to back off of the fine, and still has not paid the line haul after nearly 70 days. We are giving the broker one last chance to make it right before we file a formal complaint to OIG at DOT, FMCSA Fraud Division, and the FTC. This broker has been losing ground over the last 3 months. Between the time the load was accepted and the load delivered, factoring company for the carrier blocked the broker due to a falling credit score. It appears clear that this broker is acting in bad faith in order to skim funds from carriers in order to save their own financial skins. To do this, they are ignoring individual ping events (not recorded in events log, only major events are recorded), and using limitations of the TruckerTools software (automatic tracking disruption after 1 hour of idle time) to justify a perceived malicious intent by CARRIERS for refusing to track.
