Construction starts on latest Solar Decathlon design Professor of Architecture and Co-director of Virginia Tech's Center for Design Research, Joseph Wheeler M.A. '95, works with students from the College of Architecture, Arts, and Design as well as the College of Engineering to create a sustainable building for the new Solar Decathlon competition called Gateway Decathlon. We had a great time at our recent alumni networking reception in Blacksburg! The event was hosted by the National Organization of Minority Architects Student Chapter (NOMAS) and held at The Maroon Door. NOMAS is a student-run organization whose focus is on inclusivity and diversity in the Virginia Tech School of Architecture . This event, like many others the student group hosts, brings students together to reach their career and educational goals. At the reception, students had the incredible opportunity to connect with alumni and industry professionals ahead of the career fair, while professionals got to speak and share insights with one another. The lecture speaker, Lawrence Scarpa, was in attendance, along with Director Jim Bassett and Dean Liu, who joined us for the event and helped us create unforgettable memories. We look forward to seeing everyone again at the next NOMAS reception! ??

The International Archive of Women in Architecture (IAWA) commemorates its 40th anniversary this year! To celebrate, the IAWA Center will host the “1×1 VT” call for submission of work. The 1×1 VT asks every female alumna from the Architecture Program at Virginia Tech to submit a drawing or flat piece authored by her that represents a breakthrough –a revelatory moment in her education or career (inclusive of all non-conventional career paths). We invite the extensive alumni community to encourage all Virginia Tech alumnae in their networks to contribute to this unique collection. Join the Zoom meeting on March 6, 2025, 7 p.m. EST.
