Lingjia Liu, #VTInnovationCampus professor and Wireless@VT director, recently traveled around the world to discuss the future of wireless technology. At the 3GPP?6G Workshop in Seoul, South Korea – a milestone event that officially kicks off the standardization of each new generation of wireless networks – Professor Liu presented on the future of 6G radio access technologies and focused on the distributed MIMO (dMIMO) project he leads. His insights sparked conversations with industry leaders from?Samsung Electronics,?Qualcomm,?Amazon, and?Apple. Sanmay Das, associate director of AI for social impact at the Sanghani Center for Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics, located at the #VTInnovationCampus, is tackling one of the biggest challenges in AI: accountability. As AI becomes more embedded in criminal justice, human oversight is critical. Virginia lawmakers are taking steps to regulate AI’s role, ensuring humans - not algorithms - remain accountable. Researchers at the Sanghani Center are working to develop AI responsibly, emphasizing that it should support, not replace, human decision-making.
