    Georgia Power’s Yes Academy held its second session with Jennifer Cole, Senior HR and Safety Manager for VT Industries. During the session, students learned about VT’s culture and work environment and engaged in exercises related to the employability skills of adaptability, collaboration, and safety. Thank you to our Supporting Sponsors: Georgia Highlands College, Georgia Northwestern Technical College, Georgia Pacific, and Summit Hill Foods. About the Program: The Chamber has partnered with Georgia Power to bring a pilot program called the You’re Employed and Skilled (YES) Workforce Skills Academy to Rome High’s College and Career Academy. Rome was strategically chosen to pilot this program for Georgia Power with the hopes that it can be replicated in other communities across the state. The goal of this pilot is to develop 20 prospective students and have them attain a livable wage job that pays $18 per hour. This is a great way to expose students to career opportunities and impact their lives. Once each month during January- May 2025 the cohort of students will gather for part of the school day to be taught selected employability skills to make them better employees in the future. At the end of the program in mid-May, the students will be offered a position.

    Thank you to Perkins Eastman | Pfeiffer in Los Angeles for inviting VT Industries to discuss Veneer for Architectural Wood Doors. The Team was great! Lots of questions and feedback and a real desire to understand and specify the right veneer types for their projects. A big shout out to Laura Fox (Architectural Designer) for inviting us and making it happen. Also a nod to Natasha Brewer (Senior Associate) for her timely and insightful comments as well as her knowledge of veneers and the issues involved when one does not research veneer choices at time of specification. It was a pleasure!
