Great opportunity and trip to India, as a part of the US-India Agribusiness Trade Mission.
Last week, we had the wonderful opportunity to participate in the US-India Agribusiness Trade Mission in Delhi to promote pecans. During our visit, we engaged with retailers, traders, and processors, and explored nut markets firsthand. This experience allowed us to gleam the following details: ?? Nuts and Dried Fruits play a significant role in Indian society and diets due to vegetarianism and religious dietary restrictions. ?? ?????? ‘Indian Consumers eat with their eyes and hands’ Color and texture influence their choices, and many vendors offer trays for customers to view and feel products before purchase. ? Health benefits from foods are extremely important to the consumer, particularly related to diabetes and heart health. ???????? Generational businesses and food traditions hold immense importance. ? Pecans are currently unfamiliar to the public, and often mistaken for small dark walnuts. Given India’s large population, nut-centric diet and health-conscious consumers, we anticipate a substantial opportunity for pecans in India. We were extremely impressed by the kindness, respect, and enthusiasm for good business from the people in India. Special thanks to the USDA and The American Pecan Council for an excellent trip!
