Increasing access, representation, and participation in arts and culture by people with disabilities.

关于我们

Open Door Arts believes our shared cultural community is stronger when it welcomes, represents, and includes all people. We work to increase access, participation and representation in arts and culture by people with disabilities through 3 program areas: COOL Schools COOL Schools (Creative Outlook on Learning) partners teaching artists and classroom teachers to develop arts-integrated learning experiences that promote inclusion, support students’ academic, social/emotional and artistic growth, and deepen engagement through drama, dance, visual arts, music, and media arts. Open Door Galleries In Boston and Worcester, our galleries showcase the work of emerging and established artists with disabilities to advance career opportunities, increase visibility and representation, and serve as platforms for the community to have important conversations about disability, identity, and culture. Professional Development and Training Through our training and professional development, we coach educators, administrators, artists and staff from cultural organizations to become more inclusive practitioners, create universally-designed programming, and develop policies and practices that encourage meaningful inclusion and participation by people with disabilities.

  • This is the last week to experience Camilla Jerome's solo exhibit “Patient, Patient” in the Open Door Gallery at the?Worcester Art Museum?. Camilla's Bodies of Water series is featured in the exhibition.?The art is created with the cyanotype process. A light-sensitive chemical that turns blue through sun exposure. Camilla shares "Bodies of Water is a visualization and meditation on disability as a fluid state. The process creates space for moments of pure presence and reacting to nature’s elements, similar to the day-to-day management of disability and chronic illness. Through these works, I generate a new frame for defining the experience of disability and rethink the metrics by which disability has historically been defined.?" “Patient, Patient ” is on display in the Open Door Gallery at the?Worcester Art Museum?through March 9. Gallery hours: Wednesday through Sunday 10 am - 4 pm. Admission to Open Door Gallery is always Free. ACCESS: We are committed to creating an inclusive exhibition environment.
