  • Governor Glenn Youngkin: Virginians need you to act on #PBMreform! ?? The bipartisan Save Local Pharmacies Act is on your desk, and the future of affordable healthcare in Virginia depends on your signature. By your signature, this law will: ? Establish a single, state-contracted Pharmacy Benefits Manager for Medicaid, eliminating the multiple PBM middlemen that continue to drive up drug costs and threaten the survival of our local pharmacies. ? Streamline and enhance transparency, paving the way for more efficient, cost-effective healthcare Please stand with local pharmacies: sign the Save Local Pharmacies Act into law!

  • Goodbye!...but not forever! Saturday was the last day of the 144th Annual Convention. Bittersweet as we wave goodbye to all those who chose to spend their weekend with us, but we look forward to seeing you all again next year for even more fun and education in Roanoke. Thank you to sponsor Merck for opening our morning with a lovely presentation to occupany our breakfast. Dr. Mark Johnson led the first CE Session with the 2025 New Drug Update. Right before the coveted OTC Competition #SenatorAaronRouse graced us with a few words of legislative wisdom and encouragement to keep the pharmacy fight strong! ACP, SU, VCU, and our Mystery Team took the front of the stage to battle for the OTC Trophy and who would come out on top of all things over-the-counter! #ShenandoahUniversitySOP ended up beating #VCUSOP by 100 points to secure their reign as champs! Congratulations! The afternoon took us to the Awards Ceremony and VPhA Membership Meeting. Dr. Tana N. Kaefer was awarded and recognized as this year's Oustanding Pharmacist, CPhT Ami Benson took home the VPhA Technician Award, and VCU PharmD Candidate Saad Shafi was awarded the VPhA Foundation's Morgan Award. Each gave rousing speeches of their gratitude and reflection on their time in pharmacy. The Membership Meeting followed directly where current President Dr. Sharon Gatewood was honored for her hard work and extended service to our Association! Rounding our final hours, our attendees educated themselves about and applied the Abbott FreeStyle Libre 3 - an opportunity provided to VPhA where participants will wear it and provide records and feedback. #DelegateOttoWachsmann gladly signed up and took a CGM for the betterment of pharmacy tech! The last CE Session of the day was led by four experts - Dr. Fusco, Dr, Neely, Dr, Kaefer, and CPhT-Adv Ayers - telling all you need to know about Medical Billing, Credntialing, and Provider Status. Though it was at the end of a long day, attendees were engaged and happy to ask questions to further their scope of pharmacy practice. Thank you to everyone who was able to attend and those who made it in spirit! We will see you back in Roanoke, VA in 2026! #VPhA2025AC #ConnectingRxCommunity #PharmacyPhun

  • Friday was a whirlwind! CE Sessions featuring the topics of Immunization Update, Tick-borne illnesses and Alpha-gal Syndrome, and Diabetes management/CGMs guided us through our first full day of convention programming. In between, attendees were met with the opportunity of choice. The DEI Book Club met during the lunch hour, led by Dr. Jade Ranger and Dr. Lucinda Maine. Along with over 40 attendees, they discussed their 2025 selection directed at women's healthcare in the United States. Our Exhibitors took the floor at 10 in the morning ranging from exams to non-profit to careers and technology. Our vendors spent quality time with attendees in the afternoon and will close out our convention with us again today! Taking us into the evening hours, the VA School of Pharmacy Reception was a major hit with all 4 schools and their deans representing. Each dean took their time to tell more about their programs and their future. We closed out Friday with a special reception hosted exclusively by VCU School of Pharmacy and its Dean K.C. Ogbonna. This was an exclusive opportunity to get up and close with the SOP and ask questions. We were happy to see them make an annual return. It's the final day of the Convention so keep posting and paying attention! More to come! #VPhA2025AC #ConnectingRxCommunity #PharmacyPhun

  • Busy, Busy, Busy! The first day of VPhA Annual Convention was packed with welcoming attendees, pharmacy education, and networking! We heard from Dr. Trista Wright, VA forensic pathologist, on the topic of poisoning, VPhA Foundation President Johnny Moore and DMAS employee Jason Lowe spoke on SUD Resources and ended the CE with Dr. Sarah Thomasson on the topic of Illicit Substance Abuse - Fentanyl, Xylazine, and Kratom. Attendees joined us in the Crystal Ballroom for our first-ever VPhA Networking Happy Hour. VPhA Committee chairs spoke a bit about what they have been up to and how volunteers can serve this year. We were excited to see everyone enjoy themselves and our company before heading out and concluding our first day! Stay tuned! More updates to come! #VPhA2025AC #ConnectingRxCommunity #PharmacyPhun

  • “Save Local Pharmacies Act” PASSES in BOTH VA House and Senate! A Monumental Step for Community Pharmacies! This Act paves the way for more efficient, cost-effective healthcare, ensuring that every community across Virginia maintains access to the personalized care only a local pharmacy can provide. While this historic win now awaits the governor’s signature, it marks a decisive moment in our ongoing fight to protect essential pharmacy services.
