A couple of years ago, I spent a few late evenings working with Brandon Hill on Vori's Series A pitch deck just as they were emerging from Y Combinator. You can find the results of our efforts here (https://lnkd.in/gnjUrkH4). Vori had a great solution in customer's hands for handling grocery back-office, but they wanted to build a complete end-to-end Grocery Store OS. To get there, Brandon raised $10m with participation from Greylock. And then I didn't hear much until last week when I was visiting San Francisco and Brandon and I got to share some chicken wings and updates. To be honest, I was a little worried. Usually, unless a startup is actively imploding, it publishes a solid stream of butterflies and unicorns...especially here on LinkedIn. But Vori and Brandon had been just...sort of quiet. Turns out, they had used the momentum of their early traction and the money raised in their Series A to actually build what they said they would build - a complete, multi-product operating system to help independent grocers take on the big box brands. Far from imploding, Vori had been building (and selling) for the past two years. And I guess that hadn't left much room for posting. Especially since grocery store managers don't spend nearly as much time on LinkedIn as VCs and tech workers. So just a reminder. There's not a fixed ratio between what you hear on the internet and what's going on behind the scenes...and most of the time building and selling are more important to your business than *looking* like you're building and selling.
