Voorhees University is a four-year, co-educational, career-oriented liberal arts college affiliated with the Episcopal Church and the United Negro College Fund. Voorhees University is fully accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award bachelor's degrees. Founded in 1897 by Elizabeth Evelyn Wright-Menafee, who was barely older than some of today's students, Voorhees University has a rich history and a bright future. We're a fully accredited historically black liberal arts college that offers degrees in 12 disciplines – a number that's growing as we grow. Through our long-standing affiliation with the Episcopal Church, Voorhees focuses on developing students spiritually as well as intellectually.

We’re thrilled to announce that some of our Sport Management students represented Voorhees University at the 2025 AFCA National Conference on January 12–13! They gained hands-on experience through a short internship/job-shadow opportunity, contributing to conference operations, setting up coaches’ workshop sessions, and participating in on-field coaching simulations. A special shout-out to our student attendees — Melvin Sauls, Jathan Smith, Maya Grant, Pedro Rios, Tayshawn Storto-Shell, Darius Keyton, and Jordyn Hill — for seizing this invaluable professional development opportunity. They were guided by Dr. Marcus Amos, our dedicated faculty member, and supported by Mr. Alan Dykens (AFCA’s Director of Membership Development). We’d also like to spotlight Pedro Rios, a senior Sport Management major, whose interviews addressed student-athlete development, mental health and wellness, and the importance of education. He also gained additional insights from the NFL Player Networking event, Super Bowl Media Week, and a micro-internship focused on player networking and career development. Pedro shared, “This was a great experience for me… I want to thank everyone at Voorhees University who created this opportunity.” Congratulations to all our students for representing Voorhees University with excellence and continuing to pave the way in sport management! We’re excited to see where this hands-on experience will take them next. #voorheesuniversity ##sportsmanagement #afcaconference #ExperientialLearning #studentsuccess #futuresportsleaders #nextlevelofexcellence #hbcu

Today, we honor the extraordinary legacy of Absalom Jones, an inspiring figure who rose from the hardships of slavery to become the first Black priest ordained in The Episcopal Church. His story teaches us that access to education can be a powerful catalyst for transformation, uplifting individuals and entire communities. We invite you to join us in supporting the Absalom Jones Fund, which directly benefits chaplaincy programs at Voorhees University and Saint Augustine’s University, two historically Black institutions devoted to shaping the next generation of ethical leaders. By contributing to this fund, you help ensure students receive not only a world-class education but also essential spiritual and moral guidance. #ICYMI We’re still on a high from the inspiring words shared by the Rt. Rev. Shannon Macvean-Brown, Bishop of the Diocese of Vermont, during the celebration of the life and legacy of The Rev. Absalom Jones, the first Black priest of The Episcopal Church. Those of us in attendance on Tuesday truly felt poured into and left spiritually full. As always, we love welcoming everyone—especially on such a meaningful day of celebration—and, in the words of President Hopkins, “Our home is your home.” We also want to extend our deepest gratitude to Bishop Ruth Woodliff-Stanley, who served as celebrant for the Holy Eucharist. Thank you for all that you do, and continue to do, for our institution. #voorheesuniversity #episcopalchurch #nextlevelofexcellence #HBCU
