Gary Duckwiler was one of the first key opinion leaders I disclosed my concept to: minimally invasive endovascular intracranial access to address unmet clinical needs beyond the vasculature for neurological disease. At the time, I was in discussions with Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) about funding opportunities in 2019. I reached out to him and Gary’s first reaction was, “This would be a platform technology for the field!” We started working on proof of concept together in 2021, first in human cadaver and then in sheep with the support of UCLA Biodesign and UCLA Health. I am beyond grateful for his mentorship and stalwart support. Transformative ideas take a village. That village deserves special mention. Today, the only pathway to the brain is through your skull, which is invasive and costly, limiting access to care for millions of patients. Vonova will completely transform the landscape of neurosurgery. Giving new hope to millions of patients. This is the origin of Vonova, which translates to "New Hope"

Motivated by personal experience, Wesley Jones knew there had to be a better way. When faced with brain tumors, the only option for diagnosis is an invasive biopsy—something Wesley had to approve for his own father. The same goes for epilepsy, drilling through the skull to diagnose. This is why Wesley joined our inventor, Jose M., to completely transform the landscape of neurosurgery.
