Gary Duckwiler was one of the first key opinion leaders I disclosed my concept to: minimally invasive endovascular intracranial access to address unmet clinical needs beyond the vasculature for neurological disease. At the time, I was in discussions with the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) about funding opportunities in 2019. I reached out to Gary for collaborative support and his first reaction was, “This would be a platform technology for the field!” We started working on proof of concept together in 2021, first in human cadaver and then in sheep with the support of UCLA Biodesign and UCLA Health. I am beyond grateful for his mentorship and stalwart support. Transformative ideas take a village. That village deserves special mention.
