Volusia County Economic Development (VCED) is the County’s division designated to grow the local economy. Economic growth occurs through new business creation, business recruitment, and business retention and expansion (BRE). VCED positions Volusia County for economic success by leading, partnering, and/or contracting with County and municipal staffs and public/private sector stakeholders. Sharing a common vision, but typically operating in silos on a day-to-day basis, Volusia’s economic development practitioners unite through VCED, multiplying operational efficiency of each organization, to better respond to local business needs. During the COVID-19 pandemic crisis, this proved most beneficial. We provided one voice and one direction to assist our struggling business community. Focused on business retention and expansion (BR&E), the team works with all businesses from start-up through multi-million dollar corporations providing business concierge-style services to assist in their success. While BR&E is the focus, We partner with Team Volusia, the CEO Business Alliance and practitioners in the recruitment of new business investment to our community.

#Edgewater boat manufacturer SōLACE Boats received its second Innovation Award in just 5 years at this year’s Discover Boating Miami International Boat Show. The Innovation Awards program honors marine #manufacturers and suppliers who bring new, innovative products for the boating industry into the market. This year SōLACE cofounder and chief designer Stephen Dougherty entered the new Solace 37 Pilot in the Center Console/Walkaround Fishing Boats category and took home the 2025 award. SōLACE has been a growing contributor to the substantial boat manufacturing industry in #VolusiaCounty since 2018 when the company was formed. ?? 2025 Small Business Outlook ?? Wondering what other small businesses are seeing when considering the year ahead? A recent survey by fin-tech company Bluevine Inc. may help provide some insight. According to Bluevine’s 2024 end-of-year Business Owner Success Survey (BOSS) Report, 79% of small business owners reported confidence in their business’ future, a 6% increase from mid-year 2024. And other surveys have shown similar results. In JPMorganChase’s annual survey of business leaders, 65% expressed optimism in the national economy, more than double last year’s responses. Additionally, a U.S. Chamber of Commerce survey showed that 72% of small business owners said they expect to grow revenue in 2025. “Recession concerns have dropped as businesses, consumers and markets have handled a period of elevated inflation and interest rates better than expected. Confidence in the soft-landing scenario has increased, and business leaders are facing forward with a positive mindset,” said Ginger Chambless, JPMorganChase Commercial Banking head of research. Similar sentiment was seen in the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) January Economic Trend Report, where optimism is high but clearly coupled with growing uncertainty. Their Optimism Index saw a third consecutive month above the 51-year average of 98, but the Uncertainty Index rose 14 points in January to 100 – the third highest recorded reading. In a recent speech to the Florida Senate Committee on Commerce and Tourism, FloridaCommerce Secretary Alex Kelly stated Florida’s dominance in #manufacturing continues to outpace nearly all other states. The state’s manufacturing output has increased from $43 billion in 2014 to $73 billion in 2022, growing at a rate of 67.8% over the past nine years and quickly surpassing other leading manufacturing states in the U.S. In September 2023, #Florida became the 10th largest manufacturing employer with 422,800 employed in the industry — outperforming both #Georgia and #NewYork.
