Back-to-school season should bring joy, adventure, and opportunities for kids to grow – not stress about school supplies. Through our Operation Backpack campaign, we were able to distribute more than 49,000 backpacks to kids in local communities in 2023. VOA helps you finish the races that seem unachievable. Our Transitional Housing for Veterans program (Volunteers of America Northern California and Northern Nevada) offers numerous resources and services for veterans facing housing insecurity. [Trigger Warning: Self Harm] Meet Rhonda, a U.S. Army Veteran, who has made it her mission to spread joy in her community. After battling spouts of depression and loneliness following her military service, Rhonda attempted to take her life. Not long after, she was brought to the veterans facility at Volunteers of America Ohio & Indiana where she found support in confidential, peer-support groups. At VOA, we have helped over 27,000 veterans successfully transition back into civilian life. Through the impactful work of Volunteers of America Oklahoma’s Veterans Employment Services, vets can access resources such as veteran-to-veteran mentoring, mental health and other referrals, and resume assistance to help them find a stable, meaningful job. [Trigger Warning: Self Harm] Meet Dustin, a former Marine and member of the Army Reserves, who is helping fellow veterans on their recovery journey. Once he was discharged, Dustin found himself abusing alcohol to combat isolationism. After surviving an attempt to take his life, Dustin turned to the resources of Volunteers of America Michigan and became a certified Peer Support Specialist for the SERV program, helping his peers find hope and belonging. On #VeteransDay, we come together to recognize the heroes who have selflessly served our country. At VOA, we’re proud to support more than 27,000 veterans and their families every year through our supportive services for veterans. These programs, funded by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, are providing rapid rehousing, employment resources, and mental health counseling, and more to help veterans in need. This year, we’re elated to share that 18 of our local offices have received VA grants for 2025 totaling more than $100M – 13% of the program's total funding.
