  • After years of dreaming, planning, and pushing forward, a new era for Crosswalk is almost here! This August, we’ll open the doors to a safe, supportive home- complete with behavioral health resources, GED opportunities, and access to college programs at SCC. This isn’t just a shelter, it’s a launchpad for Spokane’s homeless youth to reclaim their futures. The timing couldn’t be more critical. Right now, 1,328 students in Spokane Public Schools are at risk of experiencing homelessness, including 284 unaccompanied youth- a number that has surged by several hundred since last year. Every one of these young people deserves safety, stability, and the chance to thrive. Statistics from the HEART Program- Homeless Education and Resource Team. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/diNZnbwE This new Crosswalk is more than a building. It’s a community saying, “We see you. You matter. You belong.” August can’t come soon enough. #VolunteersofAmerica #voaspokane #spokanewa #volunteersofamerica #thankyou #crosswalk2.0

  • A Heartfelt Tribute to Bridget Cannon ? Bridget was more than a leader, she was a true force of compassion, a tireless advocate, a guiding light, and a dear friend. To know her was to see a woman who gave of herself entirely and fiercely every day. Bridget’s warmth and humor filled every room. She was the best storyteller, quick to laugh and ready to lift others. But beyond her colorful spirit was her devotion to those she served. For 32 years, Bridget walked through our doors determined to ensure young people were seen, heard, and supported. Her dedication was limitless, her heart enormous. To her colleagues, Bridget was more than a mentor, she was family. She taught us how to do this work with courage, authenticity, and passion. She challenged us to be better, reach further, and care harder. Her influence goes far beyond her years with us, leaving an indelible mark on everyone who worked beside her. As a VOA family, we are grieving a loss that feels impossible to put into words. Bridget’s kindness, grit, and extraordinary heart will remain woven into the fabric of our work and our lives. We honor her legacy by continuing the mission she held so dearly. Her impact on the lives she touched knew no bounds. Here are just a few examples of the kindness and wisdom she shared with us all: "I've been with VOA for over 12 years and have learned more from Bridget than I can say. She taught me the reason we do what we do.?Her passion was infectious.?I will never forget our true mission, and I will do my absolute best to continue spreading the wisdom I was lucky enough to obtain from her." - T.J. Regalado "She was a great listener, always asking the hard questions that encouraged me to think for myself. She supported me through many challenges, let me fail, and reminded me that if I wasn’t failing, I wasn’t truly learning. I’m grateful for my time learning alongside Bridget and that she let me get to know her." - Wendy Alderson "Without even trying, she had broadened my thinking and sharpened my ability to engage in new ways. Her ideas were insightful and often contagious, sparking a level of curiosity and reflection that I hadn’t expected. While she may have been eager to learn from me, the truth is, I had already learned so much from her. And for that, I am deeply grateful." - Brandon Martin We could easily write an entire book of what Bridget has contributed to VOA and the countless lives she has changed over the years. Her passion was and still is truly invaluable. Our community and all she walked alongside in it are forever changed. Bridget Cannon, you have a permanent place in all our hearts. ?? ?

  • When Volunteers of America was founded in 1896, “volunteer” referred to anyone who served others as a vocation through a commitment to a mission. Flash forward 129 years later, we are now staffed by over 16,000 dedicated changemakers (with services in 46 states including Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico) who impact people we serve for the better. Here’s to individuals in our communities who make the world a better place by inspiring others through the work they do! ?? #happybirthday #VolunteersofAmerica #voaspokane #spokanewa #nonprofit

  • Hello VOA Community, It is with profound sadness that I share with you the loss of our one and only, Bridget Cannon, VP of Program Operations. She was a friend, an ally, a mentor, a fierce advocate for youth people, and most importantly one of the best humans you'll ever meet. She was quick to laugh, was the best storyteller and loved adventure. Her love for VOA and the people in our doors was proven every day that she stepped through them. For 32 years, Bridget Cannon came to VOA to ensure that young people had what they needed to thrive, and she stopped at nothing to provide it. Bridget Cannon was not only my colleague, but a true friend and had a profound impact on me as a human being by teaching me how to do this work with intensity, honesty, and fierceness. I know many of you can relate to this. As a VOA family, we are holding space to grieve Bridget's loss. We know many of you will be doing the same. VOA will be working with her family and friends to have a celebration of life in the near future. Please share this with others in the community. Her network of impact is wide and I am sure we have missed important people. Sincerely, Fawn Schott
