Opening Doors for a Better Tomorrow

关于我们

The Volunteer Ministry Center (VMC) was established in 1987 and offers specialized services to individuals experiencing homelessness and those within our community who are in crisis. VMC maintains an impeccable record of fiscal responsibility and is supported by a competent, meticulous, and visionary board of volunteer directors. Every month, over 350 volunteers assist with a variety of tasks ensuring that clients are served with a host of services while keeping our budget lean. VMC’s programs include: The VMC Resource Center (housing focused transitional day shelter), The Bush Family Refuge (homeless prevention services), Minvilla Manor (permanent supportive housing complex with 57 apartments for disabled and formerly chronically homeless individuals), Street Outreach (engaging the most vulnerable and mentally-ill homeless), the VMC Dental Clinic (dental care for the homeless and very low income), and The Foyer (low-barrier housing focused emergency overnight shelter. The goal for all clients is housing. Utilizing case management and the ‘Housing First’ approach to ending homelessness, VMC assists individuals into permanent, supportive housing and provides the resources necessary to maintain housing. Once housing is achieved, the case management relationship continues until a level of self-sufficiency is reached, thus ensuring success.

  • Thank you Renewal by Andersen of Knoxville for donating supplies for a kit-packing project with United Way of Greater Knoxville. 60 disaster relief kits were assembled to provide essential supplies for those VMC serves. A special thanks to UWGK Community Engagement Manager Kate Barnett for taking her time to visit with us and make the drop off of these special donations. • Happy Anniversary Mary Beth Ramey! Mary Beth has given sixteen years to VMC and helping our neighbors struggling with housing. She shares her thoughts on what her time at VMC means to her: "God blessed me 16 years ago when he gave me the opportunity to serve Him through the work of VMC. To serve our neighbors in the capacity that I do is a privilege, and I am humbled to play a small role in helping those in our community who have lost hope, dignity, and self worth, to reclaim their lives through housing. Losing your home and experiencing homelessness is traumatic and devastating, severely affecting one’s mental and physical health. If I can be a small beacon of light to show God’s love to others by the work I do to raise the funds needed for our programs and services, then the mission God has called me to do is being accomplished."

  • Join us in wishing a special birthday to VMC's Human Resources/Office Manager, Christy Allen Smith! Over the almost 16 years she has worked for VMC, Christy has served our neighbors in the VMC Dental Clinic, Bush Family Refuge and in many other capacities. So glad that VMC can share this day with Christy and celebrate all of the many ways she has served our neighbors and staff throughout the years.

  • Thank you Farragut West Knox Chamber of Commerce for hosting a very meaningful Speaker Series Program "Building Solutions: Tackling Housing & Homelessness Together" today. VMC 's CEO, Tracey Williams was honored to take part in the discussion alongside Katie McIlwain with The Connection Center at Cokesbury, Erin Read with the Knoxville-Knox County Office of Housing Stability and Knoxville and Knox County law enforcement officers. These community conversations are critical as we come together to find permanent and long term solutions.

  • The VMC Dental Clinic provides high quality dental services to those experiencing homelessness and those who are low income. Dental Clinic Coordinator, Paula Mays (front & center), leads a team of volunteer dental staff that give their time to provide dental services to those that have no other access to dental care. In 2024, the dental clinic had 577 patient visits and performed 1,242 dental procedures at no cost to those we serve. Thank you Paula and all of our incredible dental clinic volunteers for all you do to improve the health of those struggling in our community.
