In honor of International Women's Month, we are excited to feature some of the incredible women at Volition Capital. Today, we are thrilled to put the spotlight on Sr. Associate Victoria Robertson as she answers a few questions about herself and her favorite investment themes! 1. What should we know about Victoria Robertson? I’m a Senior Associate at Volition, originally from Texas but currently calling Boston home. I’ve always been drawn to the fusion of numbers and narratives, which led me to a career in growth equity. At Volition, I have the opportunity to partner with talented, ambitious founders with a vision of how things ought to work and help them realize that change. Prior to Volition, I worked at Alpine Investors in San Francisco, investing in later-stage software and services companies. 2. What are a couple of investing themes or areas that currently excite you? I’m particularly excited about “business-in-a-box” and prosumer solutions that power individuals and small businesses to better optimize their processes and operations with professional-grade - yet easy to use - tools. I also love seeing the rise of companies that sit at the intersection of technology and consumer services, particularly in sectors where data automation can drive better decision-making or solve a critical consumer pain point. The pace of innovation has never been faster, and it’s an exciting time to partner with founders as they take the next step in their journey. 3. Who are some of your role models? One woman who I admire is Whitney Wolfe Herd, the CEO of Bumble. Besides being the youngest woman in the U.S. to take a company public with Bumble’s 2021 IPO, she’s built a company that turned the traditional social networking model on its head, all while maintaining her mission of advocating for women’s empowerment. She has also "put her money where her mouth is," so to speak, by creating the Bumble Fund to help businesses founded by women of color or from underrepresented groups to scale to the next level. Her journey is a great example of how empowering a community can drive lasting change. 4. What do you like to do when you’re not in the office? Outside of work, you can find me exploring Boston or traveling to a new city, cycling at a spin studio (I worked as an instructor in San Francisco!) or finding the best spot for chips and guacamole. If it's a fall Sunday, though, you'll be hard-pressed to find me anywhere besides cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs.
