?? EU CSRD Omnibus Proposal - Balancing Sustainability Reporting & Business Competitiveness ?? The European Union has proposed significant changes to the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) through its new Omnibus package. ?? Key changes include: ? Scope reduction: Only companies with 1,000+ employees will need to report (previously applied to companies with 250+ employees), potentially exempting 80% of previously affected businesses ? Extended timeline: A 2-year postponement of reporting deadlines across all company categories, giving businesses more time to prepare ? Simplified requirements: Reduction in mandatory data points to decrease administrative burden It's worth noting that the original CSRD introduced the concept of double materiality, requiring companies to report not only how sustainability issues affect their business but also how their operations impact society and the environment. Concerns over the complexity and administrative burden of meeting these dual requirements prompted the proposed Omnibus package to simplify and streamline compliance. The proposal aims to address concerns about excessive regulatory pressure while maintaining the EU's commitment to sustainability and transparency. ?? What do you think?
