?Water is the essence of life. It nourishes ecosystems, sustains communities, and drives economies. But water is also energy! ??Hydropower is the largest source of renewable electricity worldwide. It provides clean, reliable energy and stabilizes power grids - playing a crucial role in the energy transition. With its ability to store energy, hydropower balances fluctuations from wind and solar power, ensuring a stable electricity supply 24/7. ??A key part of this system is pumped storage, often called the "green battery." By storing excess energy and releasing it when needed, it helps to integrate renewables efficiently and keeps the grid secure. ?? Water is not just a resource—it’s a lifeline. From drinking water to clean energy, from food production to climate resilience, water is at the heart of a sustainable future. Managing it responsibly means securing our way of life for generations to come. ??On #WorldWaterDay, let’s recognize the incredible value of water – for life, for nature, and for a renewable energy future #WithHydropower.

We are honored to announce our participation in the 8th Small Hydropower Conference, which took place on March 18-19 in Brasília. At the invitation of the Brazilian Association of PCHs and CGHs (ABRAPCH - Associa??o Brasileira de PCHs e CGHs), the event's organizer, the CEO of Voith Hydro Latin America, Dr. Hans Günther Poll, joined the panel on Pumped Storage Plants, shared his expertise in the discussion on how pumped storage plants can contribute to sustainability and emphasizing the importance of this type of hydropower plant for the Brazilian electrical system, including reversible small hydropower plants. On March 19, Hans returned to the conference program with the lecture “Configurable solution for small hydropower plants”, focusing on the application of StreamDiver turbines in Small Hydropower Plants and Hydropower Generating Plants (CGHs), as a solution for Low-Head hydropower plants. Voith Hydro is proud to sponsor this event, which aims to highlight hydropower as the cleanest and most renewable energy source in Brazil, especially with the intelligent management of the country's water resources.???? #Hydropower #SmallHydro #PumpedStorage #StreamDiver

????????????-?????????????? ???????????? ?????????? – ?????????????? ?????? ???????????? ???????????????????? ???????????????? Industry leaders, policymakers, and experts are gathering in Berlin to discuss the future of energy cooperation between Africa and Germany. One key topic: Financing Sustainable Energy Projects in Africa – and Heike Bergmann, Senior Vice President Sales Africa at Voith Hydro, is part of the conversation. With 90% of Africa’s hydropower potential still untapped, unlocking investment and fostering strong partnerships is essential. The panel explores: ?? How regional cooperation and private-sector participation can accelerate projects ?? Which financing mechanisms are needed to drive hydropower development ?? The role of technology and innovation in securing reliable energy access In addition to Heike Bergmann’s session, Heike Bruch and Andreas Hutzler represented us in further discussions. With multiple insightful sessions taking place in parallel, this highlighted the importance and diversity of topics covered at the forum. Andreas emphasized that Germany’s Export and Investment finance system could take a more active role in supporting renewable energy projects in Africa. Measures like local currency coverage and modern refinancing schemes – already available in other EU countries – could help unlock private sector participation and drive investments.? ??The forum once again demonstrated that collaboration, investment, and knowledge exchange are essential to shaping just an energy transition. #Withhydropower, Africa has the opportunity to harness its vast renewable resources for a more sustainable future. A big thank you to Afrika-Verein der deutschen Wirtschaft (German - African Business Association) for organizing this important platform and bringing together industry leaders, policymakers, and experts to drive action!

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro recently toured our Voith Hydro workshop in York, Pa. (U.S.) and announced key components of his “Lightning Plan” – a plan to secure Pennsylvania’s energy future, including hydropower. Voith Hydro in York, Pa. is one of the world's largest dedicated hydropower turbine equipment manufacturing facilities, and we were proud to give Governor Josh Shapiro an inside look into the facility – and the people – who are manufacturing hydropower equipment in the U.S. As demand for electricity continues to grow, hydropower stands out as one of the most reliable and sustainable renewable energy sources available. ?? Pioneers of Hydropower – Women who shaped the energy industry For centuries, hydropower has been a cornerstone of energy generation. Yet, many of the women who helped shape this industry remain in the shadows of history. From Nora Stanton Blatch Barney, one of the first female engineers in the U.S., to Edith Clarke, who revolutionized electrical grid efficiency, and Anne Grete Ellingsen, a champion of sustainable energy solutions – these women played a crucial role in advancing hydropower. Today, women continue to drive innovation in the sector. Organizations like GWNET: Global Women's Network for the Energy Transition and WISH (Women in Sustainable Hydropower) – a joint initiative by GWNET and the International Hydropower Association (IHA) – are working to increase female representation and create opportunities for future leaders. Their work is essential in making the industry more diverse and inclusive. ?? But there is still work to do. How can we further support women in hydropower? The Moson small hydropower project in Slovakia is pushing the boundaries of efficient and sustainable hydropower. At its core: Voith Hydro’s adjustable StreamDiver – a completely oil-free, compact, and cost-effective solution. ?? First adjustable StreamDiver for an optimal InPipe solution Originally, an unregulated version was considered, but after a thorough evaluation, the adjustable StreamDiver proved to be the best fit. By adapting the guide vanes to fluctuating flow rates and head conditions, it ensures significantly higher efficiency. ?? The project includes two of these innovative turbines, forming a state-of-the-art InPipe solution, where water is directed to the turbine through a pipe. Together with our subsidiary SINTAKSA, we ensure seamless electrical integration and implementation of all auxiliary systems. ? With this advancement, we are once again setting new benchmarks in efficiency and flexibility – driving sustainable hydropower forward.

Last week, our #HydroPictureOfTheWeek challenged you: Which turbine type was in the picture? ??Many of you joined the quiz – and the most common answer was a horizontal, six-nozzle Pelton turbine. ??But the correct answer is: M-Line Pelton! At first glance, the image might be misleading – and that’s exactly what makes this perspective so exciting! ?? The M-Line Pelton turbine is a vertical unit that can have 3 to 6 nozzles. It is part of our modular M-Line product family, designed specifically for small hydro applications, enabling sustainable and economically viable power generation worldwide. ??So why did many think it was the six-nozzle Pelton? The first-ever horizontal six-nozzle Pelton turbine, installed at the Gerlos 1 power plant, set new benchmarks. Traditionally, Pelton turbines with more than three nozzles were arranged vertically – but Voith Hydro successfully developed a horizontal version with comparable efficiency. Thanks to everyone who participated in the quiz! Should our next #HydroPictureOfTheWeek focus more on the horizontal version – maybe with an image from Gerlos 1? ??Let us know in the comments below! ?? #WithHydropower

?? Can you guess the turbine type? A different perspective on this week's #HydroPictureOfTheWeek! This image gives a rare look from underneath a turbine. Designed for efficient power generation in small hydro applications, this unit combines precision engineering with reliable performance. But can you tell which turbine type it is? ?? Hint: It’s not always what it seems at first glance! Drop your guesses in the comments below – we’re curious! ?? ?Stay tuned for the answer next week.
