Congratulations to MPA alumna Bose Maposa on winning OHIO's Global Community Award ?? During International Education Week, Bose was recognized for her efforts to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for people moving to Athens from other countries, including gathering donations of much-needed furniture, kitchen utensils, and other household necessities. We are so proud of you, Bose! ??

Raccoon Creek is officially the 16th Ohio Scenic River and first in Southeast Ohio! ?? On Nov. 12, Governor Mike DeWine and Ohio Department of Natural Resources Director Mary Mertz designated the creek in a ceremony. Over the last 40 years, ODNR and multiple partners, including the Voinovich School, have painstakingly restored Raccoon Creek from a polluted waterway to a hub for outdoor recreation. ?? ?? ??? https://lnkd.in/gwC9wF5F

While celebrating 50 years of OHIO’s Environmental Studies program, our students and faculty planted trees along the Hocking River in Athens. ?? ?? Now, we’re urging our alumni to do the same! According to the Arbor Day Foundation, fall is a great time to plant trees because it gives an extra growing season before summer. Plant a tree in your own community or backyard to make your own impact. Plus, we want to see! Be sure to take pictures of your new sprouts and tag us. ??

A very green OHIO ?? ?? Ohio University has been recognized as the top “Green School” in the state, and among the “Top 50 Green Schools” nationally by Princeton Review. The Voinovich School is proud of our students, faculty and staff who are a part of environmental efforts across the University.

Interning at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory gave Alyssa Manning, BA '24, the space to acquire skills in understanding people and policies and how they overlap during a crisis. Now, she is working toward a Master of Public Administration. ?? Currently, Manning is gaining additional experience as a fellow at the Cleveland Council on World Affairs. Her experiences are a direct reflection of all the potential opportunities available to social science majors.

Happy #VeteransDay, Bobcats ???? Ohio University recently hosted the VAU Fallen Heroes Memorial on campus in late October. The Memorial is composed of more than 7,000 dog tags, each representing a service member who has fallen in the War on Terror. The dog tags are arranged in alphabetical order from Sept. 11, 2001, to December 31, 2017, with tags thereafter in chronological order of those Killed in Action (KIA).

Join us on Wednesday, Nov. 13, for the Fall 2024 Football Green Game as the Bobcats take on Eastern Michigan! ?? ?? There will be sustainability-education activities during and before the game plus waste diversion and proper disposal of gameday items into trash, recycling and compost bins will be focused on. The Ohio University Athletics-Sustainability Working Group, a group of representatives across campus including the Voinovich School, started the Green Games initiative two years ago.

Ohio University celebrated Women in Entrepreneurship Week with a special alumni panel last month. ?? The event brought together three accomplished alumni who shared their experiences building creative and successful businesses — Cierra Boyd, BSHCS ’17; Toyia Montgomery, BSJ ’02; and Amanda Epp, BSH ’08.
