Void (YC S24) is the open source Cursor alternative. Today, developers mainly use closed-source AI tools like Cursor and Copilot to write code. These tools force developers to send their private data to proprietary models, leading to privacy concerns, lock-in, and higher prices for developers. Void solves these problems by being open source. Developers have full access to Void’s code, so they can run Void using any AI model. They can choose to self-host their own model and keep their data completely private, or set up direct communication with their favorite AI model and communicate straight with the source. Open source also means enterprise companies can keep all their data on-prem when using Void. Andrew Pareles formerly worked as a quantum computing researcher and built software at Columbia, Cornell, and JHUAPL. Mathew Pareles studied physics at Cornell and researched transformer architecture before GPT became popular. The two are now paving the way for a future where coding with AI is open source.
