We were honored to welcome José Olivarez as a guest speaker at our February Teacher Fellowship session. He shared the source of his inspiration to write about culture, community, and heritage. We love how he honored the complexity of story and relationship to immigration. Thank you!

Our final stop in Atlanta was to Southwest Dekalb High School to visit Ms. Rowe and her students. They shared their 'They Say, I Say' poems demonstrated an incredible amount of vulnerability and self-reflection during their interviews. We were honored to be witnesses to their stories. We visited Dunwoody High School in Atlanta to see what Ms. Phillips and the Youth Power Collective were up to! They hosted a Black Table Talk with us to share their thoughts about the world, the new administration's impact on them as young people and Vocal Justice as a nonprofit, and what issue they're thinking of addressing through the collective. Trump is TRYING to erase our historical memory with the stroke of a pen, because he knows the power we possess when we remember us historically. When we know who we are, what we’ve been through, and what we’ve accomplished, we feel compelled to replicate that and speak up! So, what do we do when his example of leadership trickles down to our states and local school boards? We fight back by implementing curriculums that teach our kids their history and how to advocate for themselves. Organizations like Vocal Justice are already doing this and ready to step up to the plate to help educators and students create the world that we all want moving forward with a curriculum rooted in progressive principles. ????
