???Our first Shark Tank?? journey was wild! Vocadian had the honor of taking the final stage at Harvard Business School, standing out among 100+ Harvard ventures. Yujie Wang (王宇杰) and Joachim Asare shared our vision for predictive impairment risk management for frontline workers in safety-critical industries. ?? It was a privilege to present to the Sharks—Kevin O'Leary, Sarah Paiji Yoo, and Matt Higgins—during a session moderated by Prof. Reza Satchu. The feedback was invaluable, sparking a lively discussion with different perspectives about the role of AI and automation in the future of work and whether occupational safety and health will remain vital. ?? What an amazing evening we had at our First Edition of Boston Shark Night! ?? organized by BAC in collaboration with SVB With 16 innovative startups pitching, we witnessed firsthand the entrepreneurial spirit thriving in Boston. In just 10 days, we received an overwhelming 102 applications, making the selection process competitive and challenging. Our final lineup featured: 6 startups from Harvard Business School 1 Startup from Massachusetts Institute of Technology 1 Startup from Tufts University 1 Startup from Boston University 5 Startups from Babson College 2 local Boston based Startups The quality of these applications was outstanding, showcasing the talent and creativity within our Boston ecosystem. Sebastián Erazo: Cifra de fallecidos en accidentes mineros se acerca a las dos cifras. Durante el mes en curso, las cifras de accidentes fatales y trabajadores lesionados en faenas mineras chilenas han alcanzado un punto crítico. En menos de un mes, los fallecidos en estos incidentes se elevaron de 5 a 9, reflejando un panorama alarmante en la seguridad minera. El 13 de octubre, el Ministerio de Minería y Sernageomin anunciaron una reducción histórica en la tasa de fatalidad en el sector minero, bajando a un 0,02 % anual, “la cifra más baja de los últimos a?os”. Sin embargo, las semanas siguientes presentaron una serie de incidentes que resultaron en la pérdida de 4 vidas en diferentes operaciones mineras. Estos sucesos han incluido volcamientos, problemas en tronaduras e incendios en instalaciones, elevando la preocupación sobre la gestión de seguridad en la industria. Hasta ahora, los 9 fallecidos del a?o incluyen 4 casos que están bajo investigación por su reciente ocurrencia, lo que podría hacer que la tasa de fatalidad se acerque a la de a?os anteriores. Esta serie de accidentes ha resaltado la necesidad urgente de fortalecer las medidas de seguridad para frenar la tendencia. Los hechos recientes demuestran que la industria minera enfrenta desafíos constantes para garantizar la seguridad de sus trabajadores. En los últimos cuatro a?os, la cifra de fallecidos en accidentes mineros se ha mantenido por debajo de los 12 anuales; sin embargo, el sector registra más de 2000 accidentes?cada a?o. Esta estadística plantea la necesidad urgente de establecer regulaciones más rigurosas y aplicar controles preventivos más efectivos, sobre todo en aspectos mecánicos y de operaciones críticas, como el uso de maquinaria pesada y la manipulación de explosivos. La alta tasa de accidentes, sumada a la exigencia física y mental de los turnos prolongados, puede contribuir al cansancio o fatiga de los trabajadores, lo que incrementa el riesgo de accidentes. Por ello, los expertos en seguridad recomiendan un enfoque integral que incluya mejoras tanto en la capacitación continua del personal como en la tecnología y protocolos de emergencia, para minimizar la ocurrencia de futuros incidentes y proteger de manera efectiva a los trabajadores en una de las industrias más riesgosas del país.
