  • When Kristi faced an unexpected health journey—six doctors, multiple misdiagnoses, and ultimately, a life-changing brain tumor surgery—she knew recovery wouldn’t be easy. But just 29 days after surgery, she was back at the Carl Gipson Center, moving again in Cora’s exercise class. “My neurosurgeon emphasized that staying active would make recovery easier and faster,” Kristi shares. And it did. Since joining CGC in 2022, she’s built friendships, regained strength after a fall, and lost 35 pounds. But more than anything, she’s found a place where she belongs. “If it weren’t for my family and my friends here supporting me, it would’ve been a dark time.” Today, you’ll find Kristi at the Center—exercising, taking trips, and sharing laughs with friends. Her journey is a testament to the power of community, resilience, and support. Looking for a place to connect and grow? Join us at the Carl Gipson Center.

  • “I have a quest for the Golden Trout. I never got one.” For Bob, adventure and community go hand in hand. From exploring West Seattle as a kid to decades of giving back in Sultan, he’s always found ways to stay involved. Now, as he prepares to retire in April on his 75th birthday, Bob is looking forward to more time for fishing, hunting, and maybe even finally catching that elusive Golden Trout. But retirement doesn’t mean slowing down. You can still find Bob at Sky Valley Center, enjoying lunch, volunteering, and connecting with friends. “To me, the Center is a focal point for socializing and having a good lunch.” At Sky Valley Center, stories are shared, friendships grow, and community thrives. Come be a part of it!

  • Meet Susie—The Heart of the Carl Gipson Center. For Susie, the Carl Gipson Center is more than just a building—it’s where she found new life, new purpose, and a renewed sense of community. After facing years of personal struggles, Susie found solace in the Center. Once she started volunteering, helping with everything from cleaning to event coordination, it was clear that Susie wasn’t just giving her time—she was giving her heart. “The Center saved my life. Before I came here, I didn’t leave my apartment for a year, except for the grocery store. But now… it’s like I have a purpose. I’m living.” Her impact has been felt deeply, earning her the title of “Volunteer of the Year” in 2023 and becoming known as "The Glue" and "The Heart" of the Center. She ensures that the Center remains a place of care and support for everyone, working tirelessly to keep the building in pristine condition, planning events, and building meaningful relationships with all who come through the doors. But Susie’s story is just one of many. The Carl Gipson Center provides seniors, refugees, adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities with a place to connect, stay active, and access vital resources. It’s a place where people like Susie rediscover their strength and sense of belonging.
